Gemix keeps a 7x7 cluster grid busy: 20 winning symbols fire one of four grid-changing effects, 40 before the charge fires triple the whole round, and three worlds add their own wilds and a World Bonus for clearing patterns. It pays often but mostly in cents, has no free spins or buys, and its rules state neither an RTP nor a maximum win.

Who it suits

Play this if…

  • You like cluster games that pay often, with a crystal that fires a grid-changing effect after only 20 winning symbols
  • You want a round multiplier you can see coming: 40 winning symbols before the charge fires triple the round
  • You enjoy a longer goal across spins, with three worlds, their own wilds and a World Bonus

Skip this if…

  • You want free spins, a bonus buy or a gamble: the game has none
  • You need the RTP and cap from the game itself: its rules state neither
  • You want big single hits: the plain gems that fill most clusters pay 10 to 50 cents for five

Gemix: Full Review

Gemix is Play'n GO's crystal-cave cluster game from December 2014, a 7x7 grid of gems where five or more touching stones pay and cascade away. Winning charges a crystal that sets off one of four grid-changing effects, a Super Charge can triple a whole round, and three worlds, each ruled by its own character, bring their own wild and a World Bonus for clearing patterns. There are no free spins or buys, so we tested the Gemix slot demo with 100 spins at $1.

What is Gemix?

The grid sits in a glowing cave of mushrooms and crystals, with the world's character and a win list on the left and, on the right, the logo, the Crystal Charge orb, a small World Pattern screen with three stars and the World Bonus counter. Each world has its own scene, pictured on the paytable.

A cluster is five or more matching gems joined horizontally or vertically. Each pays once for its size, the winning gems disappear, the rest fall and new ones drop in, and the cascades continue until nothing more connects.

The four premium symbols are a gold star, a red heart, a pink moon and an orange flower. At a $1 bet the star pays $3.50 for five, $40 for 10 or 11 and $1,000 for 15 or more, the heart $500, the moon $200 and the flower $100 at that size.

The four plain gems are worth far less: 10 to 50 cents for five, and $7.50 to $30 for 15 or more.

The stake is picked from five buttons, $0.50 to $2.00 around the default, with a minus and a plus for further steps. The server lists coin values of 0.01 to 10.00 at 10 coins, which gives $0.10 to $100; the help text names no limits. There is no gamble.

Gemix base spin 25 at a $1 bet, settled: a 7x7 grid of gems in the Miner's world, a win list with 12 cyan gems at 3.00 and WIN 7.90Base spin 25 of 100 at $1, settled in the Miner's world: 12 cyan gems for $3.00 among its clusters, $7.90 in all. Gemix bonus features

Crystal Charge

Every winning symbol charges the crystal, and once it has filled, after wins on 20 symbols, it fires as soon as the cascades stop. It sets off one of four effects:

  • Nova Blast: a symbol explodes and removes its neighbours, then the blast pulls back into a core of identical symbols
  • Crystal Warp: one symbol is chosen, and it and every matching symbol are changed into other symbols
  • Light Beam: beams shoot out along a symbol's row and column, and everything they hit is changed into other symbols
  • Chain Lightning: two opposite corner symbols are linked by an arc, and the symbols it hits turn into one of the corner symbols

The game carries on normally afterwards, so the crystal can charge again in the same round and fire more effects.

Super Charge

Once the crystal is full, more winning symbols can push it further. Win on 40 or more symbols before the Crystal Charge fires and the round is Super Charged: the wins already made and every win after the effect in that round are multiplied by 3. It can happen only once per round.

Worlds, patterns and the World Bonus

Gemix has three worlds, each with three patterns shown on the small screen beside the grid. Winning on all the marked positions clears a pattern; clearing all three moves you to the next world and pays the World Bonus, which grows by 10% of your symbol wins along the way.

World Wilds

On rounds that bring no win, each world's wild has a chance to appear. In the Miner's world up to 10 wilds drop in from the top, replacing gems.

In the Princess' world an edge symbol turns wild and spreads across the grid until it reaches another edge. In the Wizard's world up to 8 sticky wilds appear; they do not fall or leave with a win, and stay for one round or until a Crystal Charge.

RTP, volatility and max win

The help text and the four paytable pages give no RTP and no maximum win, and the official page lists neither. Review sites list 96.83% as the top version and a maximum win of 4,513.5x the bet, and they rate the game medium volatility; the demo shows none of these.

Played on Play'n GO's official practice demo at 1.00 a spin (10 coins at 0.10). The demo shows credits without a currency label; we count one credit as one dollar. Spin 1 by mouse, the rest started one at a time by a script clicking the spin button, without Auto Play. Two sessions: on spin 92 the demo reported an error, took the stake and did not credit the $2.30 it showed, which counts as $0; session 1 (spins 1 to 92) ends at 24,977.10. A reload started session 2 at 25,000.00 for spins 93 to 100, ending at 25,000.20. Each session matches its own server balance and screen. Gemix has no free spins, buy, ante, paid mode or gamble. The World Bonus reached 7.14 in session 1 but no world was cleared, so it was never paid, and the reload reset it. Which effects fired was not recorded. The rules state no RTP, so no version is shown. Totals: $100.00 staked, $77.30 credited. A sample of 100 spins says nothing reliable about the RTP or the volatility.

We played the official practice demo at $1 a spin. Its credits have no currency label; we count each one as a dollar. The demo opened at 25,000.00 on the 1.00 bet. The first spin was a click and a script started the rest one at a time, without Auto Play; Fast Play was switched on around spin 54, which only speeds up the animation.

The test ran in two sessions. On spin 92 the demo showed a message that the system was temporarily unavailable: the server took the stake, listed a $2.30 win with an error code and did not credit it, so we count that spin as $0. Session 1, spins 1 to 92, reconciles to 24,977.10.

After a few minutes the demo was reloaded, which starts a fresh practice balance of 25,000.00, and spins 93 to 100 ran in session 2, ending at 25,000.20. Each session matches its own server balance and screen. Together: $100.00 staked and $77.30 credited.

Gemix paid often and in small amounts. Sixty spins were credited wins, 32 of them under $1, and the longest run without one was just 4 spins, 31 to 34. Even so, 72 spins returned less than the stake.

The best spin was 25, a run of cascades worth $7.90, 7.9x the bet, with 12 cyan gems for $3.00 in its win list. That is a single result: without it, the other 99 spins returned $69.40 from 59 wins, the best of them $4.10.

The World Bonus counter grew to 7.14 during session 1, but no world was cleared and the bonus was never paid; the reload reset it to 0.00. Our log does not record which Crystal Charge effects, Super Charges or World Wilds fired, and 100 spins cannot measure an RTP or a volatility.

Is Gemix worth trying?

Gemix is the older, gentler member of Play'n GO's 7x7 cluster family. The crystal fills fast, after only 20 winning symbols, and fires an effect every time it does, so rounds keep changing shape without a long build-up.

Its real twist is the Super Charge. Wins already counted in the round are tripled along with what follows, which makes a long first cascade worth more than it looks. The worlds add a slower goal across spins, though a session can end, as ours did, with a World Bonus on the counter and no world cleared.

Against Reactoonz, by both games' rules, the grid and cluster rule match. Reactoonz needs 25 winning symbols per charge and queues up to four random features before its 3x3 Gargantoon, with no multiplier on the round, while Gemix fires one effect per 20 symbols and can triple the round. Our Reactoonz session paid $33.60 from 42 wins; this one $77.30 from 60, single sessions both.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I play the Gemix demo for free?+

Yes. Play'n GO's practice version runs here with no account, starting from 25,000 credits with no currency sign on the 1.00 bet. Reloading it starts a fresh practice session: in our test a reload after a demo error on spin 92 put the balance back to 25,000 and the World Bonus back to 0.00.

What are the Crystal Charge effects in Gemix?+

After wins on 20 symbols, once the cascades stop, the crystal fires one of four: Nova Blast blows up a symbol and its neighbours, Crystal Warp changes one symbol type into others, Light Beam changes everything along a row and column, and Chain Lightning links two opposite corners and turns the symbols it hits into one of them.

How does the Super Charge work in Gemix?+

If you win on 40 or more symbols before the Crystal Charge goes off, the round is Super Charged: the wins already collected in that round and every win after the effect are multiplied by 3. It can happen once per round, and it is the game's only multiplier on wins.

How do the worlds work in Gemix?+

Each of the three worlds, the Miner's, the Princess' and the Wizard's, has three patterns. Winning on all of a pattern's positions clears it, and clearing three moves you on and pays the World Bonus, which grows by 10% of your symbol wins. Each world also has its own wild for rounds without a win.

What are the RTP and max win of Gemix?+

Neither appears in the game's help text or paytable, or on Play'n GO's page. Review sites list 96.83% as the top RTP version, with versions as low as 84.90%, and a maximum win of 4,513.5x the bet. The practice demo does not show which RTP version it runs, so check the casino's game information.
