Viking Runecraft packs a lot into each paid spin on its 7x7 cluster grid: the level's god can turn a dead drop wild, 20 winning symbols fire one of four grid-breaking effects, and a double charge opens a Ragnarok free round with a multiplier of up to x15. The rune stones pay cents, there are no free spins or buys, and the rules give a 5,000x cap but no RTP.

Who it suits

Play this if…

  • You like cluster games where a dead first drop can still turn wild through the god's gift
  • You want a free round whose multiplier climbs from x2 at 20 winning symbols to x15 at 80
  • You enjoy a goal across spins: patterns to clear, four gods to meet and a growing bonus

Skip this if…

  • You want free spins, a bonus buy or a gamble: the game has one free round and none of those
  • You need the RTP from the game itself: its rules state only the 5,000x cap
  • You dislike sessions carried by one feature: the rune stones pay 20 to 80 cents for five

Viking Runecraft: Full Review

Viking Runecraft is Play'n GO's Norse cluster game from April 2017, a 7x7 grid where five or more touching symbols pay and cascade away. Thor, Odin, Freya and Heimdall take turns beside the grid, each with a gift of wilds, and a charge meter sets off grid-breaking effects or, charged twice, a Ragnarok free round with a multiplier of up to x15. We tested the Viking Runecraft slot demo with 100 spins at $1.

What is the Viking Runecraft slot?

The grid stands before a frozen mountain pass. On its left are the Runes of Valhalla counter, a round shield that serves as the charge meter, and the win list; on its right, the god of the current level beside a badge with the level's number, title and pattern.

A win needs five or more matching symbols touching horizontally or vertically. Each combination pays once, at its highest win, then its symbols are removed, the rest fall and new ones fill the gaps, until no new cluster forms.

Four Norse objects are the premiums. At a $1 bet the red war hammer pays $5 for five, $25 for nine and $1,000 for 15 or more; at that size the horned helmet pays $250, the axe $100 and the hammer amulet $80. The five rune stones pay 20 to 80 cents for five and $10 to $50 for 15 or more.

Five buttons, 0.50 to 2.00 in our session, plus a minus and a plus set the stake. The server lists coin values of 0.01 to 10.00 at 10 coins a spin, so $0.10 to $100; the help text names no limits. There is no gamble, buy or ante.

Viking Runecraft base spin 100 at a $1 bet, settled: the 7x7 rune grid, Thor on level 5, a win list of 5.00 and 0.20 and WIN 5.20Base spin 100 of 100 at $1, settled on level 5 with Thor: five war hammers for $5.00 and five green runes for $0.20, $5.20 in all. FluxPlays demo test, 19 October 2026.

Viking Runecraft bonus features

Gift of the Gods and the levels

Each level puts one god beside the grid and marks a pattern of positions on the badge. Win on all of them and the pattern clears, the game moves up a level and the next god takes over.

On rounds with no win, the current god's gift can trigger at random. Its wilds stand in for any symbol, and the round then carries on:

  • Thor, God of Thunder: lightning turns five to nine random symbols wild
  • Odin, God of Wisdom: four wilds appear in two pairs, each pair stacked vertically
  • Freya, Goddess of Beauty: wilds grow in four clusters from random spots in the inner 5x5 area, four at a time, until a win lands
  • Heimdall, God of Guarding: seven wilds appear, one on every row

Charge of Destruction

All wins in a round charge the shield. After wins on 20 symbols, once no cascades are left, it fires one of four effects:

  • Fury of Fenrir: four diagonal lines are slashed across the grid; two are removed and two turn into another symbol
  • Judgment of Jormungandr: an unbroken path from edge to edge is destroyed, and some symbols along it turn into one symbol
  • Scorching of Surtr: three symbols catch fire, the fire spreads, burning symbols are destroyed and each burned cluster gets a core of one new symbol
  • Lure of Loki: of two symbol types picked, every symbol of one leaves the grid and every symbol of the other is transformed

Play then carries on, and the shield can charge again in the same round.

Ragnarok and the End of the World meter

Win on 20 more symbols after any Charge of Destruction effect, or on 40 before the first one fires, and Ragnarok awards one free game round, at most once per paid round.

Inside it the End of the World meter replaces the shield and counts winning symbols across the feature: 20 give a x2 multiplier on the total win, 40 x3, 60 x5 and 80 x15. Each time the wins stop, one Charge of Destruction effect plays; once all four have played and nothing more wins, the feature ends.

Runes of Valhalla

Winning clusters of the five rune stones collect them, up to five different stones a spin. Collect at least one and clear the level's pattern, and a bonus wheel spins: stopping on an active, lit rune wins the bonus, and more stones light more runes. The stones reset to zero as the wheel starts.

The bonus grows by 12% of symbol win amounts, and the intro and paytable both say the 5,000x maximum does not include the growing bonus.

FluxPlays demo test, 19 October 2026.

RTP, volatility and max win

The game states its cap, 5,000x the bet or $5,000 at $1, with the growing bonus on top. It states no RTP in the help text or on its six paytable pages, and the official page lists none. Review sites list 96.71% as the top RTP version and rate the game high volatility; the demo does not show which version it runs.

Played on Play'n GO's official practice demo in one session, from a 25,000.00 balance, with no reload. The demo shows credits without a currency label; we count one credit as one dollar. Every spin was at 1.00 (10 coins at 0.10 on the server), each started on its own by a click or a script pressing the spin button, without Auto Play. Viking Runecraft has no free spins round, bonus buy, ante, paid mode or gamble; its Ragnarok feature is a single free round, which came once, on spin 31, and paid $117.50 at x5. By the server log: Gift of the Gods on 10 rounds, a Charge of Destruction effect on 6, four patterns cleared (level 5 reached) and four Runes of Valhalla wheels, one paid ($1.12 on spin 26). Not seen: the x15 meter level, Heimdall's gift, a 15+ cluster of the top symbol. The rules state no RTP, so no version is shown. Totals from the server log: $100.00 staked, $178.32 returned, ending at 25,078.32 to the cent. A sample of 100 spins says nothing reliable about the RTP or the volatility.

The test ran on Play'n GO's official practice demo, in a single session without a reload or a sign-in. The demo labels its credits with no currency at all, so we count one credit as $1. The balance began at 25,000.00 on level 1 with Thor and the 1.00 bet selected. Each spin was started on its own, by a click or a script pressing the spin button, without Auto Play.

The server log covers every round, and the chain closes to the cent: $100.00 staked, $178.32 returned, 25,078.32 at the end on the server and on screen. Wins came on 45 spins, 25 of them under $1, and the longest run without one was 5 spins, 75 to 79.

One round made the session. On spin 31 the log shows a Gift of the Gods and a Charge of Destruction effect, then Ragnarok. The effects played one after another on a burning grid, and the round closed at $23.50 with the meter on x5: $117.50, 117.5x the bet. With the count-up it took about two minutes to settle.

Viking Runecraft end of Ragnarok on spin 31 at a $1 bet: CONGRATULATIONS, TOTAL WIN 117.50 and MULTIPLIER X5 over the burning gridSpin 31 of 100 at $1, end of Ragnarok: TOTAL WIN 117.50 with the x5 multiplier, and the round's 23.50 before it in the win bar. FluxPlays demo test, 19 October 2026.

That is a single result. Without it the other 99 spins returned $60.82 from 44 wins, the best $5.50 on spin 29, a round with a Gift of the Gods on Odin's level. The balance peaked right after spin 31 at 25,103.12; the last 69 spins returned $44.20.

By the server log the gifts came on 10 rounds and a Charge of Destruction effect on 6. We cleared four patterns and reached level 5, and each clear spun the Valhalla wheel: it paid once, $1.12 on spin 26, and missed on spins 37, 86 and 100, leaving $8.85 in the counter.

We never saw the x15 meter level, Heimdall's gift or a cluster of 15 or more red war hammers. One hundred spins say nothing reliable about the RTP or the volatility, and in ours one feature round decided the result.

Is Viking Runecraft worth trying?

Viking Runecraft gives each paid spin several ways to keep going. A dead first drop can still turn wild through the god's gift, every win feeds a shield that reshapes the grid, and two full charges open a free round whose multiplier climbs with each winning symbol. The levels and the Valhalla bonus add a goal across spins.

The weak side is how much rests on Ragnarok. The rune stones that fill most clusters pay cents, the shield starts each round empty, and there are no free spins or buys to fall back on. Our session showed both sides: one free round paid $117.50, the other 99 spins less than two-thirds of their stake.

Gemix, Play'n GO's 2014 gem game, is the closest relative by both games' rules: the same grid and clusters, and a charge after wins on 20 symbols. There, 40 symbols before the charge fires triple the round; here they open Ragnarok. Gemix's World Bonus grows by 10% and pays when a world is cleared, while the Valhalla bonus grows by 12% and still needs the wheel.

Reactoonz charges per 25 winning symbols and queues random features before its 3x3 Gargantoon wild, with no round multiplier. Our Gemix and Reactoonz tests returned $77.30 and $33.60 on the same $100, single sessions both.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I play the Viking Runecraft demo for free?+

Yes. This page runs Play'n GO's practice version with no account: 25,000 credits with no currency sign, the 1.00 bet already picked, and a Level 1 Journeyman screen showing Thor's gift before the first spin. Nothing needs collecting or gambling; each round pays itself out.

What does the god beside the grid do in Viking Runecraft?+

Each level brings one of four gods, and on rounds without a win that god's Gift of the Gods can add wilds: Thor five to nine, Odin four in two vertical pairs, Freya clusters of four until a win lands, and Heimdall one on each of the seven rows. Our server log recorded a gift on 10 of 100 spins.

How do you trigger Ragnarok in Viking Runecraft?+

Charge the shield twice in one paid round: 20 more winning symbols after a Charge of Destruction effect, or 40 winning symbols before the first one. The free round plays all four effects while a meter sets a x2 to x15 multiplier by winning symbols. Ours came on spin 31 and paid $117.50 at x5.

What are the RTP and max win of Viking Runecraft?+

The game gives its maximum as 5,000x the bet, $5,000 at $1, not counting the growing Runes of Valhalla bonus. It gives no RTP, and neither does Play'n GO's page. Review sites list 96.71% as the top version; the demo does not say which version it runs, so check the casino's own game information.

Is Viking Runecraft the same as Viking Runecraft 100 or Apocalypse?+

No. Viking Runecraft: Apocalypse (June 2023), Viking Runecraft 100 (December 2023) and Viking Runecraft 1000 (August 2026) are separate Play'n GO games. This page covers the April 2017 original on its 7x7 grid, and everything on it comes from that game's own rules and our 100 spins on it.
