Our verdict
Golden Retriever pairs a likeable theme with two bonus games behind one trigger: collect-and-retrigger free spins and a Hold & Spin with rising board multipliers. It is easy to follow, but the base game is very quiet, the buys cannot choose your bonus, and in our test neither buy came close to its price.

Golden Retriever: Full Review
Golden Retriever is a slot from Reel Kingdom, released through Pragmatic Play, starring a grinning golden retriever beside 5x3 reels framed in red rope, complete with a leash clip. It launched on 20 August 2026 as a high-volatility game with 10 paylines, a 96.52% top RTP and a 5,000x cap. Scatters lead to one of two bonus games, picked at random: money-collect free spins or a Hold & Spin coin round. We played 100 spins of the Golden Retriever slot demo at $1 and tried both bonus buys.

What is the Golden Retriever slot about?
It is about as cheerful as slots get: a sunny meadow, a dog that never stops smiling, and buttons shaped like bones. In free spins the sky turns pink and purple at dusk, and win screens show the amount on a giant orange dog biscuit.
The symbols are dog things and card royals. At a $1 bet, five red dog beds pay $200, the "Yum Yum" treat bag $100, and the football and rope toy $50 each. The food bowl is the money symbol and also pays $20 for five as a line symbol. A and K pay $20 for five, and Q, J and 10 pay $10. Wins pay left to right on 10 fixed lines.
This is a game with long quiet stretches. Pragmatic Play quotes an 11.16% hit rate, about one win every nine spins, and 14 of our 100 spins paid something.
Base game at $1: the ante and both buys sit in the bones above the reels. FluxPlays demo test, 15 October 2026.
Golden Retriever bonus features
How the bonus triggers
Three, four or five dog-house scatters start the bonus, and the game then picks Free Spins or Hold & Spin at random. If only two scatters land in the base game, one to three other symbols can turn into scatters to complete the trigger. The bowls you see in the base game carry money values from 2x to 500x the bet, but those values only pay in free spins.
Free spins
Three, four or five scatters give 10, 15 or 20 free spins. The golden retriever is the wild, appears only in free spins, and collects the value of every money symbol on screen when it lands. Every fourth wild collected adds 10 more spins and raises the win multiplier to 2x, then 5x, then 10x, up to three times.
Each retrigger also gives the last spin before it a modifier. "Win Fetch" turns a random payline into one paying symbol, "Can't Lick It" turns a random number of symbols into one paying symbol, and "Can You Dig It" turns random symbols into money values of 1x to 100x. If the free spins sound familiar, they follow the same collect-and-retrigger pattern as Reel Kingdom's Big Bass games, such as Big Bass Splash 1000.
Hold & Spin
Hold & Spin starts with a few coins on screen and three respins, reset each time a new coin lands. Coins are worth 0.4x, 1x, 2x, 4x or 10x the bet. The trigger reserves a full-screen multiplier of x1, x3 or x10 for three, four or five scatters. Filling all 15 positions pays the coins times that multiplier, then the board clears and starts again with a higher one (x2, x3, x5, x10 and finally x25).
A full board at x1: $8.20, mostly from $0.40 coins. FluxPlays demo test, 15 October 2026.
Ante bet and bonus buys
The ante bet, labelled "Double chance to win feature", doubles the bet and the chance of triggering the bonus, and switches the buys off. The Buy Feature costs 120x and guarantees three to five scatters. The Buy Super Feature costs 500x and guarantees four or five, so it gives at least 15 free spins or a Hold & Spin starting at x3. Neither buy lets you choose the bonus: the game still picks at random. The rules list 96.52% RTP for both buys and 96.53% with the ante. Our guide to bonus buy slots explains what that price covers.
The $120 buy: a random bonus, not a choice. FluxPlays demo test, 15 October 2026.

Played on the official demo with play money. The bonus started once in the 100 base spins, as Hold & Spin, so the free spins count above is 0. 100 spins is a small sample: it shows how a session can feel, not the game's long-run RTP or volatility.
The base game was hard going. Our 100 spins returned $39.40, and only 14 paid. The longest run without a win was 21 spins, and the best line hit was $5. Scatters teased constantly: 37 spins showed at least one and eight showed two, but the two-scatter conversion never fired.
The bonus came once, on spin 67, when three scatters landed on their own and the game picked Hold & Spin. The coins filled all 15 positions for $8.20 at x1, then the board restarted at x2 and stalled with nine coins worth $4.80, paid as $9.60. That $17.80 was our biggest base-game result. Without it, the other 99 spins returned $21.60.
The $120 Buy Feature played out almost identically. It landed two real scatters, turned a third symbol into one, and picked Hold & Spin. The board filled for $10, restarted at x2 and ended on nine coins for $9.60, so $19.60 in total. In both rounds most coins were the smallest 0.4x value, which is why a full board was worth only 8x to 10x the bet.
The Super Feature's tennis ball decides: free spins or Hold & Spin. FluxPlays demo test, 15 October 2026.
The $500 Buy Super Feature landed two scatters and turned two more symbols into scatters, then a giant tennis ball picked 15 free spins. The dog collected seven wilds. The best spins were two $17 collects in a row, and the fourth wild earned a retrigger. Before it, "Win Fetch" filled a payline with one symbol for $20. The 10 extra spins at x2 then paid only $2.80, and the dog fell one wild short of the next level. The round paid $73.80 over 25 free spins, so the two buys cost $620 and returned $93.40.
Win Fetch on the last spin of the first batch: a payline of one symbol for $20. FluxPlays demo test, 15 October 2026.
A few practical notes. The big-win biscuit appears even for wins of $10 to $17 at a $1 bet and counts up until clicked. While the reels spin in free spins, the blurred money symbols sometimes flash very large tags, but none of those values landed for us.
Is Golden Retriever worth trying?
It is if you like collect-style free spins and want a second bonus to keep things varied. The theme is warm and well made, the wild meter shows exactly what the next retrigger brings, and the RTP stays at 96.52% to 96.53% across the base game, the ante and both buys.
It asks a lot of patience, though. Every source we checked, including the game itself, calls it high volatility. Our base game returned 39% with one win every seven spins, and the buys returned 15% of their cost in our sample. The random pick also means a 500x buy cannot guarantee the bonus you want. The real upside sits in the later free spins retriggers, the 500x bowls and Hold & Spin's x25 board, and we saw none of them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I play the Golden Retriever slot demo for free?+
Yes. The Golden Retriever demo on this page is Pragmatic Play's official play-money version, so no account or deposit is needed. It opens at a $2 bet, and the bone-shaped buttons above the reels hold the ante bet and both buys. Switching the ante on disables the buys. We used it for our 100-spin test.
What is the RTP of the Golden Retriever slot?+
96.52% in its standard version, with 95.52% and 94.52% versions that some casinos run instead. In the version we played, the rules list 96.52% for both bonus buys and 96.53% with the ante bet.
Who made the Golden Retriever slot?+
Reel Kingdom, a studio that releases its games through Pragmatic Play. The demo carries the Reel Kingdom name in its footer and spin button, and Pragmatic Play lists the game in its own library.
How does the Golden Retriever bonus work?+
Three to five scatters trigger it, and the game picks at random between free spins, where the retriever wild collects money symbols and every fourth wild retriggers with a higher multiplier, and Hold & Spin, where filling the board pays the coins times a multiplier that rises up to x25.
Can you choose the bonus when you buy it?+
No. Both buys pick the bonus at random. The 120x Buy Feature gives at least 10 free spins or Hold & Spin at x1 or better, and the 500x Buy Super Feature gives at least 15 free spins or Hold & Spin at x3 or better.
