Secret of Dead puts the Dead series' expanding-symbol free spins on six reels: more Ankhs give longer rounds of up to 15 spins, each retrigger adds another expanding symbol up to nine, and a doubled Shai can fill the screen for the 10,000x cap. The base game is lines, Ankh pays and a card gamble, there is no buy, and the game states no RTP.

Who it suits

Play this if…

  • You like book-style free spins and want six reels for the expanding symbol to fill
  • You want the round to grow: more Ankhs mean up to 15 spins, and each retrigger adds an expander
  • You want a high stated cap: 500,000 coins, 10,000x the bet

Skip this if…

  • You want a bonus buy: the game has none, and the free spins come only from Ankhs
  • You want the RTP stated in the game: its rules give none, and casinos pick from five versions
  • You want a busy base game: outside free spins there are line wins, Ankh pays and a gamble

What is Secret of Dead?

The reels stand between blue stone pillars with flames on their capitals and coins heaped at their feet, under a gold Secret of Dead crest. The help text describes a plain 6-reel, 3-row game with 10 lines and no locked reel, and the paytable pays up to six of a kind.

Wins run left to right from the first reel, and only the best combination on each line is paid. Shai, a queen in a gold headdress, tops the table with the Ankh; a black cat, a blue scarab and a golden cobra follow, then the card ranks A to 10.

The paytable counts in coins at the current bet. At our $1, 50 coins of 0.02, six Shai or six Ankhs on a line pay 25,000 coins, $500, and two of them pay $2. The cat pays $200 for six, the scarab and cobra $100. The card ranks need three: the A pays $25 for six and the others $20, with 40 cents for three K, Q, J or 10.

Coin values run from 0.01 to 2.00, and coins per line and lines can be set with minus and plus; at five coins on 10 lines a spin costs $0.50 to $100. After a base-game win you can collect or gamble.

Secret of Dead bonus features

The Ankh, wild and scatter

The Ankh substitutes for every other symbol and pays on lines in its own right, as much as Shai. It is also the scatter: it pays anywhere on the reels, its scatter wins are multiplied by the total bet and added to the line wins, and three or more start the free spins.

Free spins and the expanding symbol

Three, four, five or six Ankhs award 8, 10, 12 or 15 free spins, played at the triggering bet and lines. Before they start, one regular symbol is drawn at random as the special expanding symbol; the Ankh is never drawn. A bar above the reels shows all nine candidates and lights the ones in play.

When enough of that symbol lands to pay, it expands to cover every position on its reels and pays on all lines without needing adjacent reels. If Shai is drawn, it pays double when expanded.

Retriggers and up to nine expanders

Three or more Ankhs during the round add 5 free spins and draw another expanding symbol, and the earlier ones keep working. Retriggers can stack up to nine, every regular symbol in the game.

The gamble

Any main-game win can go on a face-down card: the colour, a 1 in 2 chance, doubles it, and the suit, a 1 in 4 chance, quadruples it. You can play it up to five times in a row, up to a limit of 2,500 coins. The rules say it does not change the overall RTP, and it is off during Auto Play.

Max win, RTP and volatility

The paytable states the cap in coins: up to 500,000, which at 0.02 a coin is $10,000, or 10,000x a $1 bet. Six expanded Shai on all 10 lines would pay 250,000 coins by the paytable, doubled to that cap exactly.

The help text and paytable state no RTP, and neither does the official page. Review sites list 96.20% as the top version, with 94.20%, 91.20%, 87.20% and 84.20% versions casinos can run, and rate the game high volatility; the demo does not show which version it uses. There is no bonus buy and no ante.

Played on Play'n GO's official practice demo in one session, from a 25,000.00 balance, with no reload. The demo shows credits without a currency label; we count one credit as one dollar. Every spin was at 1.00: coins of 0.02, 5 per line, 10 lines; spins started one at a time by a script clicking the spin button, the free spins with one click, without Auto Play. Secret of Dead has no bonus buy, ante or paid mode, and the gamble was declined after every base win. Free spins triggered once, on spin 75: 10 spins with the 10 expanding, no retrigger, $210.80 including the trigger spin, a single result, collected by the game without a gamble offer. The rules state no RTP, so no version is shown. Totals from the server log: $100.00 staked, $236.90 returned, ending at 25,136.90 to the cent. A sample of 100 spins says nothing reliable about the RTP or the volatility.

The demo carries no currency label, so we count each credit as one dollar. It opened at 25,000.00 on exactly 1.00 a spin: 0.02 a coin, five coins, 10 lines. A script started each spin in turn, and the free spins with one click, without Auto Play. We declined the gamble every time; the next spin collected each win.

The server log closes to the cent: $100.00 staked, $236.90 returned, 25,136.90 at the end on the server and on screen. The base game was quiet. Of 35 winning spins, 26 paid under $1, 17 of them the 40 cents for three card ranks, and 91 spins returned less than their cost. The longest dry run was 7 spins, 90 to 96.

After 74 spins the balance stood at its low of 24,948.80. Then spin 75 landed four Ankhs: 10 free spins, with the 10, the lowest symbol, drawn as the expander, and 950 coins already won on the trigger spin.

The 10 kept landing. On free spin 5 it expanded over five of the six reels while the win counter was still running.

The round closed at 10,540 coins, $210.80 or 210.8x the bet, trigger spin included, with no retrigger. The game collected it by itself and offered no gamble, taking the balance to 25,158.60.

Secret of Dead end of the free spins from spin 75 at a $1 bet: CONGRATULATIONS, TOTAL WIN 10540 coins, expanded 10s on the reelsThe end of the free spins from base spin 75 at $1: TOTAL WIN 10540 coins, $210.80, with expanded 10s on the right-hand reels. FluxPlays demo test, 19 October 2026.

That is a single result. Without it the other 99 spins returned $26.10 from 34 wins, the best $4.00 on spin 60, with an Ankh and Shai opening line 3. The last 25 spins returned $3.30.

We never saw a retrigger, so only one expanding symbol was in play, and Shai's double pay never came up. One hundred spins and one bonus round say nothing reliable about the RTP or the volatility.

Is Secret of Dead worth trying?

The sixth reel is what changes the feel. An expanded symbol now has six reels to cover, six-of-a-kind lines pay up to $500 at $1, and a full screen of a doubled Shai is worth 10,000x, twice the 5,000x cap of Book of Dead and Legacy of Dead. Bigger Ankh counts also buy longer rounds, from 8 spins for three up to 15 for six.

The draw still decides most rounds. A card rank as the expander needs three reels to pay and a premium only two, and outside free spins the base game is lines, Ankh pays and a card gamble. Retriggers bring 5 spins each, fewer than the opening set.

By both games' rules, Legacy of Dead is the closest model: one random expander at the start, another per retrigger, up to nine, and a Tomb that pays on lines. It runs on 5x3, opens with 8 spins whatever the Tomb count, adds 8 per retrigger and caps at 5,000x. Book of Dead keeps one expander for the whole round and pays its Tomb only as a scatter.

Our sessions of the three each turned on one round: $210.80 here, $54.50 in Legacy of Dead and $35.00 in Book of Dead, single results that show the spread, not a ranking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I play the Secret of Dead demo for free?+

Yes. This page loads Play'n GO's practice version with no sign-up. It opens with 25,000 unlabelled credits on exactly 1.00 a spin, coins of 0.02 with five per line on all 10 lines, and the panel counts in coins: 50 coins a spin. After each base-game win it waits for you to collect or gamble.

How do the expanding symbols work in Secret of Dead?+

Before the free spins one regular symbol, never the Ankh, is drawn at random. When enough of it lands to pay, it fills its reels and pays on every line without needing adjacent reels; Shai pays double when expanded. Each retrigger adds 5 spins and another expander, up to nine. In our test the 10 was drawn and once covered five of the six reels.

How is Secret of Dead different from Book of Dead and Legacy of Dead?+

It adds a sixth reel and doubles the cap to 500,000 coins, 10,000x the bet. Like Legacy of Dead it adds an expanding symbol per retrigger, up to nine, where Book of Dead keeps one; unlike both, the number of Ankhs sets the round's length, 8 to 15 spins, and retriggers add 5.

Does Secret of Dead have a gamble feature?+

Yes, after any base-game win. Guess a face-down card's colour to double the win or its suit to quadruple it, up to five times and up to 2,500 coins. It is off in Auto Play and, by the rules, leaves the RTP unchanged. We declined it every time, and after the free spins the game collected the $210.80 without offering it.

What are the RTP and max win of Secret of Dead?+

The paytable states up to 500,000 coins, $10,000 at our 0.02 coins, 10,000x the bet. No RTP appears in the help, the paytable or on Play'n GO's page; review sites list 96.20% as the top of five versions, down to 84.20%. The demo does not reveal which version it runs, so check the casino's own game information.
