Our verdict
Legacy of Dead keeps Book of Dead's frame, 10 lines and one random expanding symbol in free spins, and changes how the round grows: every retrigger adds 8 spins and another expanding symbol, up to nine, and the Tomb now pays on lines too. The round starts shorter at 8 spins, the card ranks pay less, the base game is lines and a gamble only, and the game states no RTP.
Who it suits
Play this if…
- You want free spins that can grow: every retrigger adds 8 spins and another expanding symbol, up to nine
- You like a wild that pays in its own right, with five Tombs on a line worth as much as five pharaohs
- You prefer a plain 10-line board with coin-sized bet steps and no buy menu
Skip this if…
- You want a long bonus from the start: the round opens with 8 spins and one expanding symbol
- You need the RTP from the game itself: it states none, and casinos choose from five versions
- You want more going on in the base game than line wins, Tomb pays and a card gamble

Legacy of Dead: Full Review
Legacy of Dead is Play'n GO's return to the Egyptian tomb, released in January 2020: a 5x3 slot with up to 10 lines, where a dead king's spirit has slipped out of the Book of the Dead. One Tomb symbol works as both wild and scatter, and three of them start 8 free spins with a randomly chosen expanding symbol, plus one more for every retrigger, up to nine. We tested the Legacy of Dead slot demo over 100 spins at $1.

What is Legacy of Dead?
The reels sit in a torchlit burial chamber under a gold pyramid crest, with flames burning in stone bowls on either side. The board is the same shape as the original's: five reels, three rows and up to 10 numbered lines, paying from the leftmost reel.
You build the stake from a coin value of 0.01 to 2.00 in 16 steps, one to five coins a line and one to ten lines, so a spin costs anything from $0.01 to $100. Our demo opened on 1.00 exactly: 0.02 a coin, five coins, 10 lines.
Pays are listed per coin, which makes one unit worth 10 cents at that bet. A pharaoh holding a crook tops the table with $500 for five on a line and $1 for two. Anubis follows at $160 for five, then a golden mask and Horus at $60. Each of these premiums pays 50 cents for two of a kind.
The card ranks start at three: A and K pay $12 for five and Q, J and 10 pay $8, with 50 cents for any three. Only the best combination on each line is paid.
Base spin 39 of 100 at $1: three Horus symbols on line 3 for 100 coins, 125 coins ($2.50) for the spin, before collect. FluxPlays demo test, 19 October 2026.
Legacy of Dead bonus features
The Tomb, wild and scatter in one
The golden Tomb is a single symbol with two jobs, not a separate wild and scatter. As a wild it replaces every other symbol and also pays on its own, the same as the pharaoh: $500 for five on a line at $1. As a scatter, three, four or five anywhere pay 2x, 20x or 200x the total bet, added to the line wins.
Free spins and the special expanding symbol
Three or more Tombs award 8 free spins, played at the triggering bet and lines; some reviews say 10, but the help text and paytable both say 8. Before the round, one regular symbol is drawn at random as the special expanding symbol. The Tomb is never drawn; any of the other nine can be.
Base spin 58 of 100 at $1: the scroll draws the 10 as the special expanding symbol and awards 8 free spins, with 500 coins ($5.00) won. FluxPlays demo test, 19 October 2026.
When enough of the special symbol lands to pay, it expands to cover every position on its reels. It then pays on all active lines without needing adjacent reels, so a 10 on reels 1, 3 and 5 still counts as three. A bar above the reels shows all nine candidates and lights up the ones in play.
At $1, by the paytable, three expanded 10s pay 50 cents on each line, $5 for the spin. Every premium pays from two of a kind, so two expanded pharaohs cover all 10 lines for $10, and five of them fill the screen.
Retriggers add expanding symbols
Three or more Tombs during the round add 8 more spins and draw another special symbol at random. The earlier ones stay, so a long round can stack up to 9 expanding symbols, every regular symbol in the game. The rules name no limit on retriggers.
The gamble
Any main-game win can go on a face-down card: name the colour, a 1 in 2 chance, to double it, or the suit, a 1 in 4 chance, to quadruple it. You can repeat it five times, up to a 2,500-coin limit. The rules say it leaves the overall RTP unchanged, and it is off in Auto Play.
Max win, RTP and bets
The paytable caps wins at 250,000 coins: $5,000 at our 50 coins of 0.02, or 5,000x the bet. A screen full of expanded pharaohs reaches it exactly, 5,000 per coin on each of the 10 lines.
Paytable page 1 in our demo session: one Tomb as wild scatter, up to 9 expanding symbols and a cap stated in coins. FluxPlays demo test, 19 October 2026.
The game states no RTP in its help or paytable, and the official page gives none. Review sites agree on 96.58% as the top version, with 94.51%, 91.51%, 87.56% and 84.55% versions casinos can run, and the demo does not say which it uses. Their data boxes rate the game high volatility, though one calls it medium in its own text; the game gives no rating.
There is no bonus buy, no ante and no other paid mode. The lowest stake is a cent, below the $0.10 floor quoted elsewhere, and the top is $100.

Played on Play'n GO's official practice demo in one session, from a 25,000.00 balance. The demo shows credits without a currency label; we count one credit as one dollar. Every spin was at 1.00: coins of 0.02, 5 per line, 10 lines; spin 1 by mouse, spins 2 to 100 started one at a time by a script clicking the spin button, without Auto Play. Legacy of Dead has no bonus buy, ante or paid mode, and the gamble was declined after every base win. Free spins triggered once, on spin 58: $54.50 including the $5.00 trigger spin, no retrigger, a single result; the other 99 spins returned $37.00. The rules state no RTP, so no version is shown. Totals from the server log: $100.00 staked, $91.50 returned, ending at 24,991.50 to the cent. A sample of 100 spins says nothing reliable about the RTP or the volatility.
We played the official practice demo in one session, with no reload. It counts in credits with no currency label, and we treat one credit as one dollar. The balance began at 25,000.00 and every spin cost 1.00. Spin 1 was a mouse click; spins 2 to 100 were started by a script pressing the spin button, without Auto Play.
The game server's log accounts for every spin: $100.00 staked, $91.50 back, ending at 24,991.50 on the server and on screen. Base-game wins only reached the balance when the next spin collected them, and we turned the gamble down after each one.
The base game was thin. Of the 34 winning spins, 21 paid 50 cents and five paid $1, so 87 of the 100 spins returned less than their cost. The longest dry spell was 8 spins, 70 to 77, and the first 57 spins returned only $16.00, leaving the balance at its low of 24,959.00.
Base spin 58 of 100 at $1: three Tombs on reels 1, 3 and 4 trigger the free spins. FluxPlays demo test, 19 October 2026.
Spin 58 then landed three Tombs. The scroll showed 500 coins, $5.00, from the trigger spin, and named the 10 as the special expanding symbol. One of our captures shows the 10 expanding over whole reels on the first free spin.
The 8 free spins added 2,225 coins and closed at 2,725 coins, $54.50 or 54.5x the bet, a single result with no retrigger. No gamble was offered afterwards: the game collected the round by itself, taking the balance to 25,012.50.
The last of 8 free spins from base spin 58 at $1, settled: 2,725 coins for the round, $54.50, with the 10 lit in the symbol bar. FluxPlays demo test, 19 October 2026.
Without that round, the other 99 spins returned $37.00 from 33 wins. The best of them was $8.00 on spin 69, which put the session at its high of 25,014.00; the last 42 spins returned $21.00 from 12 wins.
We saw no retrigger, so never a second expanding symbol, and nothing near the cap. One hundred spins tell you nothing reliable about this game's RTP or volatility.
Is Legacy of Dead worth trying?
The retrigger rule is what sets it apart. Each extra set of Tombs inside the round brings 8 spins and a new expanding symbol, while the old ones keep working, so a round can grow from one chance at a full reel to nine. The trade is a shorter start of 8 spins and a single draw that decides most rounds that do not retrigger.
The Tomb also earns more here than in its predecessor, paying $500 for five on a line on top of its scatter pays. Against that, the card ranks pay less, and outside free spins there is only the gamble.
The Book of Dead slot is the original, and by both games' rules the bones are shared: 5x3, up to 10 lines, bets from $0.01 to $100, the same card gamble and the same 250,000-coin cap. Book of Dead gives 10 free spins and keeps one expanding symbol however often the round retriggers, and its Tomb pays only as a scatter.
Our two tests each saw one round: Book of Dead's 10 spins paid $35.00 and returned $132.50 over 100 spins, while Legacy of Dead's 8 paid $54.50 in a session that returned $91.50. Single rounds like these show the variety, not which game pays more.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I play the Legacy of Dead demo for free?+
Yes. The demo on this page is Play'n GO's own practice game, with no account needed. It counts unlabelled credits from 25,000 and opened at a 1.00 bet built from 0.02 coins, five a line on 10 lines. One thing differs from the base game: when our free spins ended, the game collected the round by itself and offered no gamble.
How do retriggers work in Legacy of Dead free spins?+
Three or more Tombs inside the round give 8 more spins and another special expanding symbol drawn at random, while the first keeps expanding. Repeat that and the count keeps rising until all 9 regular symbols expand, as the paytable puts it. Our only round, from spin 58, ran its 8 spins on the 10 alone.
What is the difference between Legacy of Dead and Book of Dead?+
By the two games' rules, Book of Dead gives 10 free spins with one expanding symbol for the whole round, retriggers included, and its Tomb pays only as a scatter. Legacy of Dead starts with 8 spins but adds an expanding symbol with each retrigger, and its Tomb also pays on lines, up to 5,000 per coin. Both cap wins at 250,000 coins.
Is the Tomb a wild or a scatter in Legacy of Dead?+
Both. The paytable labels it WILD SCATTER: it substitutes for every symbol, pays on lines like the top pharaoh, and pays 2x, 20x or 200x the total bet for three, four or five anywhere. Three or more of them start the free spins. A separate wild and scatter, as some reviews describe, do not appear in the game's rules or on its reels.
What are the RTP and max win of Legacy of Dead?+
The game itself publishes no RTP. Review sites list 96.58% as the highest version and four lower ones down to 84.55%, and the practice demo does not reveal which one it runs. The maximum is set in coins: 250,000, which at our $1 bet of 50 coins is $5,000, or 5,000x, the sum a full screen of expanded pharaohs pays.
