Legacy of Egypt

Legacy of Egypt is Play'n GO's April 2018 trip to the pyramids: five reels, three rows and 30 fixed lines, with a scarab wild and a pyramid scatter. Three pyramids spin the Wheel of the Gods for 3 to 20 free spins, each with its own multiplier of up to x10, and inside the round the pyramids turn wild and can add Pyramid Spins. There is no buy and no gamble, so we tested the Legacy of Egypt slot demo with 100 spins at $0.90.

What is Legacy of Egypt?

The reels stand in a gold frame inside a sunlit temple, between painted columns and potted palms, with the bet buttons and readouts in a blue and gold bar beneath. The symbols are a queen, a pharaoh, Horus, Anubis, Sobek and Bastet, plus four royals from J to A.

All 30 lines are fixed and always on. Wins pay from the leftmost reel, each line pays only its highest win, and the pays are per line, which is why they look small against the total bet.

At our $0.90 bet five queens pay $9.00 on a line (10x the bet), five pharaohs $7.50, five Horus $6.00, Anubis $3.75 and Sobek or Bastet $3.00. Five of any royal pay $1.50, and three of them 15 cents.

The scarab is the wild and stands in for every symbol except the pyramid; five of them pay $15.00 on a line. Three, four or five pyramids anywhere pay 5x the total bet, $4.50 at $0.90, added to the line wins, and three or more start the free spins.

Bets come in steps of $0.30: the five buttons run from 0.30 to 1.50, and the server lists line bets of 0.01 to 3.00, so a spin costs $0.30 to $90. Wins pay out by themselves, and there is no gamble.

Wheel of the Gods

Three or more pyramids anywhere spin the Wheel of the Gods, which decides the length of the round. Its segments award 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 15 or 20 free spins. The free spins use the same bet and lines as the spin that triggered them.

Multipliers on every free spin

Each free spin starts with a random multiplier of x2, x3, x5, x8 or x10, shown on a bar above the reels, and every win on that spin is multiplied by it. A short round can still pay well if a strong line lands on a x10 spin, and a long round can stay quiet if the big multipliers fall on empty spins.

Wild Scatters

During free spins the pyramid pays as a wild as well, so the round has two kinds of wild: the scarab, and the Wild Scatter that can also extend the round.

Pyramid Spins

Two or more Wild Scatters on one free spin trigger Pyramid Spins. A smaller wheel awards 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 of them, and each keeps the multiplier of the free spin that triggered it, so two pyramids on a x10 spin bring up to eight more x10 spins.

Pyramid Spins can trigger again from within Pyramid Spins, and three or more Wild Scatters on the trigger double the values on the wheel. When they end, any free spins left over continue.

RTP, volatility and max win

Paytable page 1 states the cap: 5,000x the bet, which is $4,500 at $0.90. No RTP appears in the help text, on any paytable page or on Play'n GO's game page. Review sites list 96.5% and call the volatility high, and nothing in the practice demo shows which RTP version is loaded.

Our Legacy of Egypt demo test

We played Play'n GO's official practice demo, whose credits show no currency; we treat one credit as $1. With no $1 step, all 100 spins were at $0.90, the nearest step below and the bet the demo opened on, so each win also appears as a multiple of $0.90.

Spin 1 was a click, a script started the rest one at a time without Auto Play, and the free spins rounds were started and continued by clicks.

The test ran in two sessions.

On spin 61 the free spins round showed a SUPER BIG WIN of $147.60 on its first spin, at x8, and closed with "Won 157.05 on free spins". The server took the stake but answered the collect with an error code and never credited the win; the demo said the system was temporarily unavailable. That round counts as $0. Session 1, spins 1 to 61, reconciles to 25,013.95 without it.

A reload started session 2 at 25,000.00, and spins 62 to 100 ended at 24,978.40. Each session matches its own server balance and screen. Together: $90.00 staked and $82.35 credited, 91.5% of the stake.

Thirty-eight spins paid, 25 of them less than the $0.90 stake, and the longest run without a win was 11 spins, 12 to 22. Two free spins rounds were credited, both early in session 1: spin 25's 7 free spins, the first of them at x10, paid $24.90 (27.7x), and spin 30's 6 free spins paid $22.50 (25x).

Those are single results: without the three free spins rounds, the other 97 spins returned $34.95 from 36 wins, the best $4.35 (4.8x) on spin 78. Session 2 had no free spins and returned $13.50 over its 39 spins.

We never saw Pyramid Spins, a doubled wheel or anything near the 5,000x cap. A sample of 100 spins tells us nothing reliable about the RTP or the volatility.

Is Legacy of Egypt worth trying?

Legacy of Egypt keeps the base game simple and puts everything into the free spins. The wheel decides how long the round lasts, and the multiplier decides what each spin is worth, so two rounds from the same trigger can end very differently. Pyramid Spins are the real prize: a pair of Wild Scatters on a high-multiplier spin locks that multiplier in for up to eight more spins.

The base game is the cost. With 30 lines and pays per line, most hits are a few royals worth cents, and only five premiums or wilds make a real line. All three of our triggers came in session 1's 61 spins, and none in session 2's 39.

Against Legacy of Dead, by both games' rules, the cap is the same 5,000x but the build differs. That game has 10 lines, one Tomb as wild and scatter, 8 free spins with an expanding symbol and a card gamble; this one has 30 lines, a separate scarab wild, a wheel of 3 to 20 multiplied spins and no gamble.

In our tests, single sessions both, Legacy of Dead paid $91.50 at $1 from one bonus round, while this game credited $82.35 at $0.90 from two.
