What is the 5 Lions Megaways slot about?

The lion wild and its base-game multiplier

The wild is a golden lion head that lands only on reels 2 to 5 and stands in for everything except the BONUS coin. Whenever it is part of a win, in base spins and in tumbles, a random multiplier of 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, 8x, 10x, 15x, 30x or 40x applies to every winning combination that uses it.

Some sources describe a dragon wild or a 2x minimum; the rules show the lion and start the range at 1x.

BONUS coins

The yin-yang BONUS coin lands on any reel and does not explode in tumbles. Three, four, five or six pay 3x, 5x, 25x or 100x the bet, and three or more open the free spins.

Seven free spins options

Before the round you choose a lion. Each option pairs a number of spins with three wild multipliers, and every wild in a win takes one of its option's values at random:

Ante bet and the buy

The DOUBLE CHANCE TO WIN FEATURE switch raises the bet multiplier from 20x to 25x, $1.25 at a $1 bet. It puts more coins on the reels and doubles the chance of free spins while pays stay at the $1 level, and it turns the buy off. We kept it off; the game server's log shows ante level 0 on every round.

BUY FREE SPINS costs 100x the bet, $100 at $1, and leads to the same seven options. The rules give 96.50% for normal play, the ante and the buy alike.

Wins are capped at 5,000x the bet, and a free spins round that reaches it ends at once. The rules list up to 117,649 ways, where review sites give 200,704 with a top row, and bets from $0.20 to $300 against their $125. The HIGH VOLATILITY badge agrees with them.

How it compares with our other Megaways reviews

Buffalo King Megaways also gives wilds 2x, 3x or 5x and caps at 5,000x, but only in free spins, where they multiply through a tumble sequence; here the lion carries up to 40x in the base game too.

Great Rhino Megaways also lets you pick the round after a buy, but its options set a starting win multiplier that climbs with every tumble, toward a 20,000x cap.

Both of those run up to 200,704 ways with a top row, against this game's 117,649. Madame Destiny Megaways, also tested by us, doubles every wild win in both modes, a fixed 2x where the lion's base value is drawn from nine.

Our 5 Lions Megaways demo test

From the opening $2.00, five presses of the minus button in the settings menu brought the bet to $1.00 and the buy from $200 to $100. A script pressed the spin button for spins 2 to 100, without autoplay, and the ante stayed off.

27 of the 100 spins paid: 13 under $1, 7 from $1 to $5 and 7 of $5 or more. The longest losing run was 10 spins, from 29 to 38.

Free spins came on spin 56, from three coins that paid $3.00. We chose 25 spins at 2x, 3x or 5x, and the round added $148.70 for $151.70 in all, 151.7 times the bet.

Two base spins also stood out on their settled boards: spin 64 paid $36.00 and spin 91 $20.00. The base game returned $266.70 from $100.00. Without spin 56 the other 99 spins returned $115.00, and without spins 56, 64 and 91, $59.00.

The option is chosen only after the buy lands, so testing all seven meant seven buys at $100 each. Every buy spin landed exactly three coins for $3.00, and no round retriggered. With the coins included, the six fixed options paid:

Mystery Choice drew 6 spins, the 40x option's count, with 8x, 10x or 15x, the 13-spin option's range: the shortest round with a middling range. It paid $13.80.

Each round is a single result, and seven of them rank nothing: the 10-spin round led on the day, which says nothing about how the options compare over time. We never saw four or more coins, a retrigger or a 40x wild.

How the session split:

Is 5 Lions Megaways worth trying?

Two things set it apart. The lion's multiplier works in the base game, so any win the wild joins can be multiplied by up to 40x, and the free spins let you choose your risk, from 25 spins with small wilds to 6 with wilds of 15x to 40x. The buy and the ante keep the 96.50% of normal play.

The limits are real too. Every option starts from the same three coins and the same 5,000x cap, so the high-multiplier options mean fewer spins, not a bigger ceiling, and Mystery Choice can pair few spins with a low range, as ours did. The badge is high.
