What is the Great Rhino Megaways slot about?

The reels hang in a wooden frame trimmed with spears and feathers on a golden savanna, with acacias, zebras and a grazing rhino behind. A top row of four symbols runs over reels 2 to 5, a board counts the ways, and free spins turn the scene to moonlit night. Two of the review sites we checked call it Pragmatic Play's first Megaways game.

Reels 1 and 6 hold up to seven symbols, and reels 2 to 5 up to eight counting the top row. The ways are the heights multiplied: the 21,000 in our first frame came from reels of 5, 6, 5, 5, 7 and 4. Combinations pay from reel 1 rightwards, and each way counts only its highest win.

At a $1 bet six cheetahs pay $50, and even two pay $1. Nothing else comes close: six gorillas pay $5, crocodiles $2.50, hyenas $2, flamingos, A and K $1.50, and Q, J and 10 $1. The rhino wild lands only on the top row and stands in for everything except the gold rhino coin, the scatter.

Tumbles

Winning symbols are paid and removed, the rest fall, and new symbols of the same size fill the gaps until no new win appears. The money reaches your balance when the whole sequence ends.

Free spins and the rising multiplier

Four or more gold rhino coins anywhere start free spins on special reels. There every tumble raises a win multiplier by 1x, and each tumble's win is paid at the multiplier in place. It grows with tumbles, not spins, so a spin without a win leaves it as it is; the intro calls it unlimited, and in our four rounds it only climbed. Three coins in the round add 5 spins, with no limit.

Four ways to start the round

Before the first free spin you pick one of four shields. Four coins offer 15 spins at 1x, 10 at 5x or 5 at 10x; five coins raise those to 19, 14 and 9 spins and six to 23, 18 and 13. The fourth shield, Mystery, gives a random number of spins and a random start, and the rules give no range for it.

The trade is chances against a head start. A 10x start pays the first tumble ten times what a 1x start pays, but five spins leave little room for more tumbles, while 15 spins give the multiplier time to catch up.

Ante bet and Buy Free Spins

The DOUBLE CHANCE TO WIN FEATURE switch on the left raises the bet multiplier from 20x to 25x, $1.25 a spin at $1. More coins sit on the reels and the free spins chance doubles, but the buy is switched off. We did not play it: the game server's log shows it off on every round. Maximum win, RTP and bets

A free spins round that reaches the 20,000x cap ends at once. The rules give no single RTP, only a maximum of 96.58% and a minimum of 96.47%, without saying which way of playing gets which; Pragmatic Play's game page quotes 96.50%, inside that range. Bets run from $0.20 to $300, above the review sites' $100, and the rules show a LOW VOLATILITY badge where those sites say high.

Our Great Rhino Megaways demo test

We cut the opening $2.00 bet to $1.00, which took the buy from $200 to $100, and played 100 base spins, each started by a script clicking the spin button rather than by autoplay. Quick spin from around spin 2 changed only the speed, and the ante stayed off.

The base game paid often but small. 35 spins paid: 21 under $1, 10 from $1 to $5 and four above, $5.60 twice, $8.60 and $12.00, and no dry run lasted longer than 9 spins. Spin 82's $12.00 was the best, a single result; the other 99 spins returned $53.00. Free spins never started on their own.

The shield is picked only after the buy lands, so we bought the round four times, once for each option. All four buys landed exactly four coins.

The 15 spins at 1x took the multiplier to 12x, with $84.00 on free spin 8 and $48.00 on the last, for $171.10. The 10 spins at 5x reached 11x and paid $198.80, $90.00 of it on the last spin.

For the 5 spins at 10x the buy spin itself paid $2.00 in a tumble, the first free spin paid $189.00 at 10x and 11x, and the other four added $11.00, for $202.00.

Mystery revealed 10 spins at 10x, more spins than the 10x shield and a higher start than the 10-spin one. It paid $20.00 on its first spin and little after that, $34.60 in all.

Each round is a single result. The 5-spin round led because one spin landed at 10x and 11x, and the best start on paper paid least, so four rounds say nothing reliable about which option pays best. We never saw five or six coins or a retrigger. The session, part by part:

Altogether we staked $500.00 and got $671.50 back, and the balance ended at $100,171.50, the figure in our log. Four rounds and 100 spins cannot pin down an RTP the rules give only as a range, or test the low badge.

Is Great Rhino Megaways worth trying?

The free spins choice is the draw. A multiplier that rises with every tumble rewards long chains, and the four shields let you decide between more spins and a higher start before a single one is played. The 20,000x cap is high for a game whose own badge says low volatility, and the base game pays often, if small.

The base game has no multiplier and one standout symbol: six cheetahs at 50x are the only big base pay, so most wins are letters and small animals. The rules also leave the RTP as a range and the Mystery spread unstated, so you cannot see what each shield is worth.

Buffalo King Megaways, tested the same day, shares the 200,704-way layout with a top row and tumbles, but its rules say high volatility, its free spins multipliers ride on wilds of 2x to 5x, and it caps at 5,000x.
