What is the Buffalo King Megaways slot about?

A wooden frame stands in a sunlit desert canyon of red rock and cacti, with the BUFFALO KING MEGAWAYS logo in the top-left corner. A signpost on the left carries the BUY FREE SPINS price and an ante switch labelled DOUBLE CHANCE TO WIN FEATURE. When free spins start, the canyon turns to night.

Reels 1 and 6 hold up to seven symbols, and reels 2 to 5 up to eight, counting a top row of four that spins on its own from right to left. At most that gives 200,704 ways, shown spin by spin on the counter at the top right.

Wins pay left to right from reel 1, and every win tumbles: winning symbols vanish, the rest drop, and new ones fall in until nothing new wins.

At a $1 bet six buffaloes pay $20, and even two pay $1, the game's only two-of-a-kind pay. Six eagles pay $6.25, cougars $3.75, and wolves and moose $1.50. A and K pay $1 for six, Q $0.75, and J and 10 $0.60, down to $0.10 for three.

Buffalo King Megaways bonus features

The rock wild

The wild is a red rock marked WILD, and the rules put it on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5; one review site we checked limits it to reels 2 to 4. It stands in for every symbol except the gold BONUS coin. The rules give it a multiplier only in free spins, so in the base game a wild simply completes ways.

The gold buffalo coin lands on all reels. Four, five or six anywhere pay 5x, 20x or 100x the bet and start 12, 17 or 22 free spins. Inside the round three or more coins add 5 spins, with no limit on retriggers, and special reels are in play.

Wild multipliers that multiply

In free spins every wild lands with a random 2x, 3x or 5x. Each time one is part of a win, its multiplier goes into a tumble multiplier panel at the top left, and all wild multipliers within one tumble sequence multiply each other: a 2x and a 3x make 6x, and two 5x wilds make 25x. When the tumbles stop, the total multiplies the whole sequence's win.

Ante bet, not tested

The DOUBLE CHANCE TO WIN switch raises the bet multiplier from 20x to 25x, so a $1 bet costs $1.25. More BONUS coins appear and the chance of free spins doubles, while the paytable still pays on the $1. The rules give it a 96.49% RTP and switch the buy off while it is on. The game server's log shows the ante off on all 101 of our rounds.

Buy Free Spins at 100x

The buy costs 100x the bet, $100 at $1, and lands four, five or six coins at random for 12, 17 or 22 free spins. The rules give it a 96.50% RTP, against 96.52% for normal play, and it cannot be combined with the ante.

Maximum win and bets

Wins stop at 5,000x the bet. A free spins round that reaches it ends at once, and any spins left are lost. Bets run from $0.20 to $300 in the demo's rules, above the $125 maximum the review sites list.

Our Buffalo King Megaways demo test

We cut the opening $2.00 bet to $1.00, which also took the buy price from $200 to $100, kept the ante off and played 100 base spins one at a time without autoplay. Then we bought free spins once.

Of the 100 spins, 22 paid: 6 under $1, 12 from $1 to $5, and four tumble sequences above $5, worth $6.40, $8.10, $9.00 and $10.80. The best was spin 34's $10.80, a single result; the other 99 spins returned $54.60. The last 11 spins paid nothing, the longest dry run of the session.

Four coins never landed together, so free spins did not start on their own.

The $100 buy landed four coins, on reels 2, 3, 4 and 6, which paid $5.00 and started 12 free spins. Most of the money came from one spin: with 8 spins left, a tumble sequence won $12.00, a 5x wild put $12.00x5 on the panel, and the sequence paid $60.00. The other eleven added $8.00, nothing retriggered, and the round ended at $73.00, 0.73 times its price.

Together the base game and the buy cost $200.00 and returned $138.40, and the server balance moved from $100,000.00 to $99,938.40, the same as our log. We never saw five or six coins or a retrigger, and the ante stayed off. A hundred spins and one bought round cannot measure a 96.52% RTP or test the high label.

Is Buffalo King Megaways worth trying?

The free spins carry the game. Wild multipliers of 2x, 3x and 5x multiply through a whole tumble sequence, so a few wilds in one cascade can lift a small win a long way, as a single 5x did to our $12.00. Retriggers have no limit, and the bonus buy gives up only 0.02 points of RTP against normal play.

The base game offers less. Its wilds carry no multiplier, free spins need four coins, and the paytable drops fast below the buffalo: in our test only four spins paid more than $5. The cap is 5,000x, so even a long run of multiplied tumbles has a fixed ceiling.

Wild multipliers work differently in The Dog House Megaways, which we tested the same day: there they appear in the base game too and multiply within a single win, with no tumbles.
