Our verdict
Aztec Idols is the first Rich Wilde game and still has two distinct bonuses: three pyramids open a pick round worth up to 150x the bet, and three sunstones start free spins with an Extra Scatter that pays the paytable times the total bet. Bets stop at $18.75, base pays are small, there is no buy, and the game states no RTP or overall cap.

Aztec Idols: Full Review
The Aztec Idols slot, in full Rich Wilde and the Aztec Idols, is Play'n GO's August 2012 game that started the Rich Wilde series: a 5x3 jungle temple slot with up to 15 lines. Rich Wilde is the wild, three pyramids open the Pick-the-Idols bonus, three sunstones start free spins with an Extra Scatter, and any win can go on a card gamble. We played the Aztec Idols slot demo for 100 spins at its closest step to $1, which is $0.90.

What is the Aztec Idols slot?
The reels sit in a carved stone frame in a jungle, under a gold Aztec Idols title with Rich Wilde's name in red script, and small stone heads watch from the lower corners. The premium symbols are four masks, in gold, grey stone, green jade and jaguar, and the card ranks A to 10 are cut from carved stone.
It is an older coins-and-lines game. You set a coin value from 0.01 to 0.25, one to five coins per line and one to fifteen lines, switched on in order, so a spin costs $0.01 to $18.75; BET MAX puts the most coins on every line. Line wins start on the leftmost reel and run right, with the best combination on each line paid.
The paytable counts in coins per coin bet on a line. At our $0.90, 15 lines of three 0.02 coins, each paytable unit is worth 6 cents on a line. Five gold masks pay $60, five grey masks $45, and five jade or jaguar masks $30. A and K pay $9 for five and Q, J and 10 pay $6, with 30 cents for three of any rank.
The masks also pay for two of a kind, from 12 to 30 cents. After every win the panel shows GAMBLE next to SPIN and COLLECT.
Base spin 29 of 100 at $0.90: Rich Wilde wilds on three reels and 309 coins, $6.18 or 6.86x the bet, before collect. FluxPlays demo test, 20 October 2026.
Aztec Idols bonus features
Rich Wilde, the wild
The explorer substitutes for every symbol except the pyramid and the sunstone, and he pays the most of anything on a line: 5,000 per coin for five, $300 at our bet, or 333x. Two of him already pay 60 cents.
Paytable page 1 in our demo session: Rich Wilde as the wild at 5000 per coin, and three pyramids for up to 150x the bet in the bonus. FluxPlays demo test, 20 October 2026.
Pick-the-Idols
Pyramids land only on reels 3, 4 and 5, and three of them anywhere start the bonus. The scene moves to a stone chamber with five golden idols on pedestals. Each idol you pick reveals a coin amount, until a booby-trapped one releases a cloud of poisonous gas and ends the round. The paytable caps the bonus at 150x the bet, $135 at our stake.
Sunstone free spins and the Extra Scatter
Sunstones land only on reels 1, 3 and 5. Three of them pay 5x the total bet and start the free spins, played at the bet and lines that triggered them. First a sunstone spins and stops, choosing both the number of free spins and one reel symbol to act as the Extra Scatter.
That symbol can be any of the masks or card ranks, never the wild, pyramid or sunstone. During the free spins it pays wherever it lands, using the normal paytable but multiplied by the total bet instead of the line bet. No extra free spins can be won in the feature, and the bonus game cannot start in it.
Paytable page 2 in our demo session: three sunstones pay 5x the total bet, and the Extra Scatter pays from the normal paytable. FluxPlays demo test, 20 October 2026.
The card gamble
Any main-game win can be staked on a face-down card. Guessing its colour, a 1 in 2 chance, doubles the win; guessing its suit, a 1 in 4 chance, quadruples it. You can gamble up to five times in a row and up to a limit of 2,500 coins, $50 at our coin value. It is off in Auto Play and, by the rules, leaves the overall RTP unchanged.
RTP, volatility and max win
The help text and the paytable give no RTP, and the official page gives none either. Review sites list 96.65% as the top version, with lower versions in use at casinos, and rate the game high volatility; the demo does not show which version it runs.
The rules state no overall cap. Review sites list 5,000x, which is what the paytable gives for five Rich Wildes on all 15 lines: 5,000 per coin on every line, $4,500 at our $0.90. There is no bonus buy and no ante.

natural triggers in the session
Played on Play'n GO's official practice demo in one session, from a 25,000.00 balance. The demo shows credits without a currency label; we count one credit as one dollar. Exactly $1 is not possible with all 15 lines active, so every spin was at the demo's default $0.90: 15 lines, 3 coins per line, coins of 0.02. Spins were started one at a time by a script clicking SPIN, without Auto Play; the bonus picks were made by hand. Aztec Idols has no bonus buy or ante, and the gamble was declined after every win. Pick-the-Idols triggered twice, on spins 34 ($25.20, 28x) and 79 ($34.20, 38x), single results; the sunstone free spins did not trigger. The rules state no RTP, so no version is shown. Totals from the server log: $90.00 staked, $109.56 returned, ending at 25,019.56 to the cent. A sample of 100 spins says nothing reliable about the RTP or the volatility.
The demo shows no currency, so we count each credit as a dollar. Exactly $1 is not possible with all 15 lines on; the nearest steps are $0.90 and $1.20. We kept the demo's default, 15 lines of three 0.02 coins, $0.90 a spin, so every win here is also given as a multiple of that bet.
All 100 spins ran at $0.90 in one session, started by a script without Auto Play, with the bonus picks made by hand. We declined the gamble after every win. The server log balances to the cent: $90.00 staked, $109.56 back, and 25,019.56 at the end on the server and on screen.
The base game was thin. Of 34 winning spins, 20 paid less than the bet and three paid it back exactly, and the longest losing run was 9 spins, 5 to 13. The balance fell to its low of 24,986.80 after spin 16. Spin 29, in our capture, paid $6.18, 6.86x.
Spin 34 brought three pyramids. The first three idols gave 540, 270 and 450 coins before the trap, a total of 1,260 coins.
The Pick-the-Idols bonus from base spin 34 at $0.90: three idols opened for 540, 270 and 450 coins, two still on their pedestals. FluxPlays demo test, 20 October 2026.
The end of the spin 34 bonus at $0.90: Congratulations, Total Win 1260 coins, $25.20 or 28x the bet. FluxPlays demo test, 20 October 2026.
That was $25.20, 28x the bet. Spin 79 did better with only two picks, 360 and 1,350 coins, for 1,710 coins: $34.20 or 38x, the best result of the session. A sunstone sat on reel 1 beside those pyramids, one short of the three the free spins need.
Base spin 79 of 100 at $0.90, back on the reels after the bonus: three pyramids, a sunstone and WIN 1710 coins, $34.20 or 38x. FluxPlays demo test, 20 October 2026.
The two bonuses were single results, and they carried the session. Without them the other 98 spins returned $50.16 from 32 wins, the best $12.60 on spin 90, 14x, which took the balance to its high of 25,025.86.
The sunstone free spins never triggered, so the Extra Scatter is described from the rules. Two bonuses in 100 spins tell you nothing reliable about the RTP or the volatility.
Is the Aztec Idols slot worth trying?
Two separate bonuses keep it interesting for a 2012 game. The pick round is simple, with a clear 150x ceiling, and the sunstone free spins carry a real twist: an Extra Scatter that pays the full paytable times the total bet wherever it lands.
The age shows elsewhere. Bets top out at $18.75, the pick bonus is capped at 150x, the base pays are small at a low stake, and exactly $1 a spin is not on the menu with every line on.
Rich Wilde's later games took him elsewhere. Book of Dead pays him the same 5,000 per coin for five on a line and keeps the same card gamble and 2,500-coin limit, by both games' rules, but swaps the pick bonus and sunstone for 10 free spins with one expanding symbol on 10 lines.
Tome of Madness moves him to a 5x5 cluster grid with cascades, a charging portal and a 2,000x cap. Our sessions returned $132.50 on $100 in Book of Dead, $101.90 on $100 in Tome of Madness and $109.56 on $90 here, single sessions that show how each ran, not which pays more.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I play the Aztec Idols slot demo for free?+
Yes. This page loads Play'n GO's practice version with no account. It opens on 25,000 credits with no currency sign at $0.90 a spin: 15 lines, three coins a line, coins of 0.02, counted in coins on the panel. After every win it offers GAMBLE beside SPIN and COLLECT; pressing SPIN collects the win and starts the next round.
How do the sunstone free spins and the Extra Scatter work?+
Three sunstones on reels 1, 3 and 5 pay 5x the total bet and start the feature. A sunstone then spins to choose the number of free spins and one mask or card rank as the Extra Scatter. That symbol pays anywhere on the reels, from the normal paytable times the total bet. We did not trigger it; one sunstone landed on spin 79.
Where does Aztec Idols fit in the Rich Wilde series?+
It comes first. Play'n GO calls it Rich Wilde's first adventure, released in August 2012, more than three years before Book of Dead. Here the explorer is the wild, paying 5,000 per coin for five on a line, and the game has a pick bonus and sunstone free spins rather than the expanding-symbol free spins the series is known for.
How does the Pick-the-Idols bonus work?+
Three pyramids anywhere on reels 3, 4 and 5 open a chamber of golden idols. Each pick reveals coins until a booby-trapped idol releases gas and ends the round, and the paytable caps it at 150x the bet. In our test it paid 1,260 coins on spin 34, $25.20, and 1,710 on spin 79, $34.20.
What are the RTP and max win of Aztec Idols?+
The game states neither, and Play'n GO's page gives no RTP. Review sites list 96.65% as the top RTP version and 5,000x as the maximum win, which is what five Rich Wildes on all 15 lines pay by the paytable. The demo does not show its RTP version, so check the game information at your casino.
