Big Bass Bonanza is the plain original of the series: 10 lines, one fisherman who collects every fish on screen in free spins, and a bar that lifts collections to 2x, 3x and 10x. Its 96.71% RTP is high and the rules are short, but the base game has no wild, its fish values never pay, there is no buy, and the 2,100x cap leaves little room above the 2,000x top fish.

Who it suits

Play this if…

  • You want the first Big Bass free spins as they were: one fisherman, one bar, three retriggers
  • You want a strong RTP: 96.71%, above both Big Bass 1000 games we have tested
  • You like a short rulebook: 10 lines, no buy, no ante and no special bets

Skip this if…

  • You need the base game to pay its way: there is no wild, and 81 of our 100 spins returned nothing
  • You are after a big ceiling: the cap is 2,100x, against 15,000x and 20,000x in the two 1000 games we tested
  • You would rather buy the bonus: there is no buy, so free spins come only from scatters

Big Bass Bonanza: Full Review

Big Bass Bonanza is the game that started the Big Bass series: a 5x3 fishing slot from the Reel Kingdom studio, released by Pragmatic Play in December 2020. Fish carry cash values on every spin, but only in free spins does a fisherman wild collect them, and every fourth fisherman raises what the rest collect. The rules give a 96.71% RTP, a 2,100x cap and a low volatility rating. For this review we logged 100 spins of the Big Bass Bonanza demo at $1, three free spins rounds included.

What is the Big Bass Bonanza slot about?

The reels hang under clear blue water, with sunlight falling through the surface, weed along both sides and a leaping bass on the logo. A small REEL KINGDOM mark sits in the bottom-left corner. Free spins add a wooden bar along the top: a row of grey fishermen that light up in colour, one by one, as they are caught.

Wins pay left to right on 10 fixed lines, and only the best win on each line is paid. At a $1 bet the fishing float pays $200 for five and is the one symbol that pays for two, $0.50. Five rods pay $100, five dragonflies or tackle boxes $50 and five fish $20. A, K, Q, J and 10 each pay $10 for five, down to $0.50 for three.

The fish is a money symbol as well as a pay symbol. Every spin gives it a random value of 2x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x or 2,000x the bet, printed on its tile, but those values are won only in free spins. The fisherman wild is a free spins symbol too, so the base game is plain line play without a wild.

Big Bass Bonanza base game at a $1 bet: four fish tagged $5 and $10 on reels 4 and 5 beside tackle boxes, a dragonfly and letters, WIN $2.00Spin 13 of 100 at $1: $30.00 of fish on the reels, and only the $2.00 line win paid. FluxPlays demo test, 18 October 2026.

Big Bass Bonanza bonus features

Scatters and free spins

The scatter is a bass leaping out of the water on a sunset badge, and it can land on any reel. Three of them award 10 free spins, four award 15 and five award 20. The round plays on special reels, and the fisherman wild can land on all five of them.

Big Bass Bonanza spin 5 at a $1 bet: three leaping bass scatters on reels 2, 3 and 4, with fish tagged $5 and $10 on reel 5Spin 5 of 100 at $1: three scatters, the first of our three free spins rounds. FluxPlays demo test, 18 October 2026.

The fisherman collect

The fisherman holds up his catch on a sunset tile. He stands in for every symbol except the scatter, so he completes line wins as well, and each fisherman that lands collects the value of every fish on screen. Two in the same spin both collect them all.

When a free spin ends with just one fisherman on the reels, the game can also add fish at random in random positions. One review site ties this to a fisherman landing with no fish in view, but the rules ask only for a single wild on screen.

Retriggers and the 2x, 3x and 10x ladder

Every fisherman is counted on the bar above the reels until the round ends. The fourth retriggers the round with 10 more spins and doubles fish collections, the eighth adds 10 more at 3x and the twelfth 10 more at 10x, and after that the round cannot retrigger. The new spins wait until the current batch is over, and the multiplier works on fish collections, not on line wins.

At 10x even the small fish count: a 50x fish collects 500x the bet. The 2,000x fish works the other way round. It is worth almost the whole 2,100x cap by itself, and from 2x up a single one takes the round past the cap.

Big Bass Bonanza retrigger board, extra 10 free spins with the fishermen now x2, and the fisherman bar lit through its +10 x2 tileSpin 85's round: the fourth fisherman brought 10 more spins at x2. FluxPlays demo test, 18 October 2026.

Maximum win, bets and no buy

Wins are capped at 2,100x the bet. A free spins round that reaches the cap ends at once, pays it and forfeits any spins left. Bets run from $0.10 to $250, and that is the whole menu: no bonus buy, no ante bet and no special bets. The game server's data holds no buy prices either, so scatters are the only way into free spins.

Played on the official demo with play money, one spin at a time and without autoplay, in a single session. The game has no bonus buy, ante bet or special modes, so the 100 base spins were the whole test. Free spins triggered naturally on spins 5 ($24.50), 85 ($210.00) and 89 ($69.50), $304.00 together; without them the other 97 spins returned $30.00, all from line wins. The $210.00 round is a single result: without it the other 99 spins returned $124.00. Totals from the spin log: $100.00 staked, $334.00 returned, ending at $100,234.00 to the cent. 100 spins cannot measure the RTP or the volatility.

The demo opened at $2.00, and we brought it down to $1.00 for all 100 spins, played one at a time without autoplay in a single session. They returned $334.00 from $100.00, with 19 paying spins, and the server balance finished at $100,234.00, matching our log to the cent.

The base game on its own was lean. Sixteen spins paid on lines, $30.00 in all: four of $0.50, four of $1.00, seven of $2.00 and one of $10.00. The longest dry spell lasted 11 spins, from spin 44 to 54. The best line win came on spin 83, four tackle boxes on line 5 for $10.00, while two fish worth $15.00 sat unpaid on reel 3.

Free spins triggered three times, and they made the session. Spin 5 landed three scatters for 10 free spins, which paid $24.50 with no retrigger. Spin 85 landed four for 15 spins and paid $210.00, 210x the bet and the best result of the test. Its retrigger added 10 more spins at x2 inside the same round.

Only four spins later, spin 89 brought three more scatters and 10 free spins. That round also reached its fourth fisherman and x2, ran to 20 spins and paid $69.50. On its last spin the x2 fisherman collected a $5.00 fish as $10.00.

Big Bass Bonanza free spins at x2: a fisherman wild marked x2 holding $10.00 beside a $5.00 fish, the fisherman bar lit one tile past x2The last free spin from spin 89: at x2, a $5.00 fish is collected as $10.00. FluxPlays demo test, 18 October 2026. Big Bass Bonanza result board after the spin 85 free spins at a $1 bet: you have won $210.00, the fisherman bar lit one tile past x2Spin 85 of 100 at $1: 25 free spins after one retrigger, $210.00. FluxPlays demo test, 18 October 2026.

The three rounds paid $304.00 of the $334.00. Without them the other 97 spins returned $30.00, and without the $210.00 round alone the other 99 returned $124.00. Each round is a one-off result, so here is the session split by source:

  • Line wins on 16 of the other 97 spins: $30.00
  • Free spins from spin 5, 10 spins: $24.50
  • Free spins from spin 85, 25 spins with one retrigger to x2: $210.00
  • Free spins from spin 89, 20 spins with one retrigger to x2: $69.50

No round reached an eighth fisherman, so we never saw 3x or 10x collections. Five scatters never landed, and no 2,000x fish was collected. A hundred spins and three bonus rounds cannot measure a 96.71% RTP or check a volatility label, and our 334% return says nothing about either.

Is Big Bass Bonanza worth trying?

The free spins set the pattern for the two later Big Bass games we compare below. Fish arrive with their values already showing, the fisherman collects all of them, and the bar above the reels gives every round a visible target: each fourth fisherman means 10 more spins and a bigger multiplier, up to 10x. The 96.71% RTP is also higher than in either of them.

Everything outside free spins is thin. The base game has no wild, the fish values on its reels never pay, and with no buy the round depends on scatters alone; 81 of our 100 spins paid nothing. The 2,100x cap is also tight for a game with a 2,000x fish, since one such catch at 2x or more ends the round at the cap.

The rules page shows a low volatility badge and explains it as frequent smaller pays with a chance to win big. The review sites we checked rate the game medium-high or high instead; the table uses the game's own label.

Next to the two 1000 games we have tested, the original is the plain version. Big Bass Vegas 1000 puts two fishermen to work, each with its own bar, starts free spins at 15 to 25 and caps at 15,000x. Big Bass Halloween Splash 1000 keeps one fisherman and the same 10, 15 or 20 spins, adds a cauldron and pumpkin upgrades, and caps at 20,000x.

Both sell free spins at 100x and 450x, offer an ante and help spins that land two scatters; the rules here describe none of that. What the original keeps is a higher RTP, 96.71% against 96.53% and 96.50%, a bigger top fish, 2,000x against 1,000x, and a low volatility label where both later games say medium.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I play the Big Bass Bonanza demo for free?+

Yes. This page runs Pragmatic Play's official Big Bass Bonanza demo with play money and no sign-up. It opened at a $2.00 bet for us; one press of the minus button and four more in the settings menu took it to $1.00 in $0.20 steps. There is nothing to buy or switch on, and after our $210.00 round the CREDIT readout took about three and a half minutes to count the win in.

Is Big Bass Bonanza the same as Bigger Bass Bonanza or Big Bass Bonanza 1000?+

No. This page covers the original Big Bass Bonanza from December 2020, game code vs10bbbonanza: 5x3 reels, 10 lines, one fisherman and a 2,100x cap, with no buy. Bigger Bass Bonanza, Big Bass Bonanza Megaways, Big Bass Bonanza 1000 and Christmas Big Bass Bonanza are separate games with rules of their own, and so are Big Bass Splash and the later 1000 editions.

How do the fisherman and retriggers work in Big Bass Bonanza?+

The fisherman is a wild that lands only in free spins. Each one collects every fish value on screen, and every fourth one adds 10 free spins and lifts collections to 2x, then 3x, then 10x, with no retrigger after the third. Two of our three rounds reached x2, and in one of them a $5.00 fish was collected as $10.00; none reached 3x.

What is the RTP of Big Bass Bonanza?+

The demo's rules give 96.71%, and with no buy, ante or special bet there is no second figure in the game. Two of the review sites we checked also list a 95.67% version, which a casino can choose to run instead. Our 100 spins returned 334% of the stake, which shows how little one short session says about RTP.

What is the max win in Big Bass Bonanza?+

2,100x the bet: $2,100 at a $1 stake, or $525,000 at the $250 maximum. A free spins round that reaches the cap ends on the spot and any spins left are lost. The top fish is worth 2,000x by itself, so a single one collected at 2x or more is enough. Our best round paid $210.00, a tenth of the cap.
