Sabaton keeps its base game busy: one symbol stacks on every spin, Chained Reels link two or three reels, Last Stand turns one or two reels wild, and three to eight scatters become the stacked symbol. The free spins need nine scatters for 7 Battalion Spins with the middle reels linked, the cap is 5,000x, and the game states no RTP.

Sabaton: Full Review

The Sabaton slot is Play'n GO's May 2019 game built around the Swedish power metal band: a 5x3 grid with 10 fixed lines, where singer Joakim Brodén is the wild. Every spin stacks one random symbol, and Chained Reels or Last Stand can link reels or turn them wild at any moment. Nine or more scatters start 7 Battalion Spins with the middle three reels linked, toward a 5,000x cap. We put the Sabaton slot demo through 100 spins at $1.

What is the Sabaton slot?

The reels sit in a riveted steel frame on the front of a war machine, with twin gun turrets on both sides and blue stage lights behind, under a gold Sabaton logo. The band appears as photo symbols in coloured frames: three guitarists in blue, purple and gold and a drummer. Joakim stands in a gold laurel frame, the scatter is a winged gold S, and the low symbols are military badges.

All 10 lines are always on. Wins pay left to right from the first reel, and each line pays only its best win.

The paytable shows its pays at the current bet. At $1, five Joakims on a line pay $100, four $15 and three $10. The blue guitarist pays $10, $3 and $1.50, and the purple guitarist, the drummer and the gold guitarist pay $7.50, $2.50 and $1 each.

The badges sit lower. A helmet or a pilot cap pays $4 for five, $1 for four and 30 cents for three; a shield or a grenade pays $2.50, 50 cents and 20 cents.

Five bet buttons run from 0.60 to 5.00 around the default, with minus and plus for the rest. The server lists 15 coin values from 0.01 to 10.00 across the 10 lines, so a spin costs $0.10 to $100. There is no gamble: a win is collected when the next spin starts, or by the game after a feature.

Sabaton bonus features

Joakim, the wild

The singer substitutes for every symbol except the scatter. He also pays for himself, and five on a line are worth 100x the bet, the top line pay in the game.

Metal Stacks and the Mystery Symbol

On every spin the game picks one symbol at random and adds a stack of it to the reels. The same symbol also acts as the Mystery Symbol: if three to eight scatters land, they turn into it, so a near miss on the bonus feeds the stacks instead.

FluxPlays demo test, 20 October 2026.

Mega Symbols

Every character symbol, Joakim and the four band members, can show up as a Mega Symbol during the features. The paytable says they can land on all reels and lists no fixed sizes. In our session one of them filled a 3x3 block.

Chained Reels

Chained Reels can switch on during any spin outside the free spins. Two or three adjacent reels are picked at random and synchronise, showing the same symbols, so a stacked character on one of them repeats across the others. It is not active in Battalion Spins.

Last Stand

Last Stand can also strike on any spin and turns one or two whole reels into stacks of wilds. Unlike Chained Reels, it stays available during Battalion Spins.

Battalion Spins

Nine or more scatters start the free spins. They can come as a full 3x3 Mega Scatter, as single scatters or as a mix of both, and scatters only partly in view still count. The round opens with 7 free spins.

Reels 2, 3 and 4 stay linked for the whole feature, and one symbol is picked at the start to be the Metal Stacks and Mystery Symbol until the end. Last Stand stays active, and another nine or more scatters retrigger the round, with no limit on retriggers.

RTP, volatility and max win

Neither the help text, the eight paytable pages nor the official game page gives an RTP. Review sites list 96.5% and rate the game high volatility, and the practice demo does not show which version it runs.

The paytable states the cap: "Win up to 5000x your bet!", $5,000 at our $1. There is no bonus buy, no ante and no gamble.

Played on Play'n GO's official practice demo in one session, from a 25,000.00 balance. The demo shows credits without a currency label; we count one credit as one dollar. Every spin was at 1.00, 10 lines at 0.10; spins started one at a time by a script clicking the spin button, without Auto Play, with Fast Play on from the start. Sabaton has no bonus buy, ante, paid mode or gamble. Metal Stacks played on every spin and Chained Reels and Last Stand now and then; Battalion Spins did not trigger, so it is described from the rules. Spin 58 paid $24.50, a single result. The rules state no RTP, so no version is shown. Totals from the server log: $100.00 staked, $57.00 returned, ending at 24,957.00 to the cent. A sample of 100 spins says nothing reliable about the RTP or the volatility.

The demo's credits have no currency sign, and we read one credit as one dollar. It opened on 25,000.00 with the 1.00 button lit, ten lines at 0.10, and all 100 spins ran at that bet in one session. A script started each spin, without Auto Play, with Fast Play on from the start.

Even so, the random features made many spins take 10 seconds or more to play out.

The server log matches the screen to the cent: $100.00 staked, $57.00 returned, and 24,957.00 at the end, which was also the lowest balance of the session. The high, 25,003.00, came after spin 3.

Only 26 spins paid, 12 of them less than $1, and 86 of the 100 returned less than their cost. Metal Stacks played every spin, while Chained Reels and Last Stand turned up now and then.

Spin 58 carried the session. The gold guitarist was the stacked symbol and covered most of the board, a 3x3 Mega Symbol in the middle, for a BIG WIN of $24.50, 24.5x the bet. The balance moved from 24,964.70 to 24,989.20 when the win was collected.

Sabaton base spin 58 at a $1 bet: the gold guitarist stacked over most reels with a 3x3 Mega Symbol in the middle, BIG WIN 24.50Base spin 58 of 100 at $1: the gold guitarist stacked over most of the reels with a 3x3 Mega Symbol, BIG WIN 24.50. FluxPlays demo test, 20 October 2026.

That was a single result. The other 99 spins returned $32.50 from 25 wins, the best of them $5.00 on spin 12 and $4.20 on spin 24. After spin 58 the next 42 spins brought back $9.80 from 9 wins, including the longest losing run, 14 spins from 59 to 72.

Battalion Spins never triggered, so the feature is described from the rules. A single big spin in 100 tells you nothing reliable about the RTP or the volatility.

Is the Sabaton slot worth trying?

The base game is the busiest part of it. A stack lands on every spin, any spin can link reels or make them wild, and those features can line up into a board like our spin 58. Three to eight scatters are never wasted, because they turn into the stacked symbol.

The free spins ask a lot. Nine scatters on a 15-position grid need a Mega Scatter or a crowded board, and the round opens with 7 spins. The line pays are modest outside Joakim, and the cap is 5,000x.

Wolf Gold uses a similar trick in its free spins. By both games' rules, its reels 2, 3 and 4 spin together as one giant symbol, where Sabaton links the same three reels for all 7 Battalion Spins. Wolf Gold needs only three scatters for 5 spins and adds a moon respin with jackpots.

Our sessions returned $173.20 from 50 wins in Wolf Gold and $57.00 from 26 here, single sessions that show the spread, not a ranking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I play the Sabaton slot demo for free?+

Yes. This page loads Play'n GO's practice version, free and without an account. It opens on 25,000 credits with no currency sign and the 1.00 button lit, among 0.60, 0.80, 2.00 and 5.00. Expect slow spins: the stacks and random features play out on every round, and ours often took 10 seconds even with Fast Play.

How do you trigger Battalion Spins in Sabaton?+

Land nine or more scatters at once. They can be a full 3x3 Mega Scatter, single scatters or a mix, and scatters only partly in view count. The feature gives 7 free spins with reels 2, 3 and 4 linked and one symbol stacked throughout; nine more scatters retrigger it without limit. We did not trigger it in 100 spins.

Is the Sabaton slot about the band?+

Yes. Play'n GO built it around Sabaton, the Swedish power metal band, and the official page names singer Joakim Brodén as the wild. The band members appear as photo symbols in coloured frames, while the low symbols are military badges: a helmet, a pilot cap, a shield and a grenade.

What do Chained Reels and Last Stand do?+

Both can trigger at random. Chained Reels links two or three adjacent reels so they show the same symbols; it does not run during Battalion Spins, where the middle three reels are linked anyway. Last Stand fills one or two reels with wilds and keeps working in the free spins. We saw both in the base game.

What are the RTP and max win of the Sabaton slot?+

The paytable caps wins at 5,000x the bet, $5,000 at $1. The game states no RTP in its help or paytable and Play'n GO's page gives none; review sites list 96.5% and rate it high volatility. The demo does not reveal which RTP version it runs, so check the game information at your casino.
