Mega Don: Feeding Frenzy

Mega Don: Feeding Frenzy is Play'n GO's December 2023 shark slot, a 5x4 grid with 1,024 ways where Mega Don and two rival sharks hunt through a reef of small fish. Snack Time can turn small fish into sharks on any base spin, and three scatters start Shark Feast, where you choose your shark: 10, 8 or 6 free spins with more of it on the reels, up to a 20,000x cap. What is Mega Don: Feeding Frenzy?

The reels float in deep blue water between rocky reef walls, under a gold and red logo with a shark's grin in the O. The big three are the sharks: Mega Don himself, grinning with red scars across his snout, a green and white hammerhead and a striped leopard shark.

Below them swim a barracuda and a marlin, two puffer fish in yellow and green, and a small blue fish and a pink one.

All 1,024 ways are fixed. Wins pay for matching symbols on adjacent reels from the leftmost reel, in any row, and each symbol pays only its best combination.

The paytable shows its pays at the current bet. At $1, five Mega Dons pay $6, four $2, three $1 and two 50 cents. The hammerhead pays $3, $1.50 and 70 cents for five, four and three, and the leopard $2, $1 and 50 cents.

The small fish pay less: barracuda and marlin $1, 60 cents and 40 cents; the puffer fish 60, 40 and 20 cents; the blue and pink fish 40, 20 and 10 cents. Each way pays separately, so a shark stacked across several reels adds up quickly.

Five bet buttons offer 0.50 to 2.00 around the default, with minus and plus beside them. The server lists 17 coin values from 0.01 to 10.00, ten coins a spin, so stakes run from $0.10 to $100. Every win is credited by the game itself, and there is no gamble.

Wilds and scatters

The wild lands only on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 and substitutes for every symbol except the scatter, a gold fish. Three, four or five scatters anywhere pay $2, $15 or $50 at $1 and start Shark Feast.

Snack Time

Snack Time can strike on any base-game spin. Up to three small fish are picked at random as upgrading symbols, and any of them that lands turns into a shark. A randomly chosen shark also appears more often on the reels for that spin. Scatters, wilds and sharks never transform.

Shark Feast and the choice of shark

Three or more scatters start Shark Feast, and before it begins you pick a hungry shark. The leopard gives 10 free spins with 88 leopards on the reels, the hammerhead 8 spins with 98 hammerheads, and Mega Don 6 spins with 108 Mega Dons. The choice screen rates volatility from three bars for the leopard to five for Mega Don.

During the round, up to six upgrading symbols can be active. When one lands it can turn into the chosen shark, and every upgrading symbol picked stays active until the free spins end.

Retriggers

Three, four or five scatters during the free spins add 2, 4 or 6 more spins and 1, 2 or 3 more upgrading symbols. The paytable caps the round at 20 free spins.

RTP, volatility and max win

The game keeps its RTP to itself: the help text, the paytable and the official page give none. Review sites list 96.2% as the top version, with 94.2%, 91.2%, 87.2% and 84.2% versions casinos can choose, and rate the game high volatility; the practice demo does not show which version it runs.

The paytable sets the cap: "Win up to 20000x your normal bet!", $20,000 at our $1. There is no bonus buy, no ante and no gamble.

Our Mega Don: Feeding Frenzy demo test

The credits in the practice demo have no currency, so we treat each one as a dollar. It opened on 25,000.00 with the 1.00 button lit, ten coins of 0.10, and all 100 spins stayed at $1 in one session with no errors. A script pressed spin each time, without Auto Play, and we made the shark choice by hand.

The server log closes exactly: $100.00 staked, $154.20 returned, 25,054.20 at the end on the server and on screen. Of 38 winning spins, 22 paid under $1, and the longest losing run was 8 spins, 29 to 36.

Snack Time ran on five spins: 1, 23, 37, 69 and 85. Two of them paid nothing, spin 85 paid $6.00, and the other two made the session. On spin 1 leopard sharks spread across all five reels for $36.00, 36x the bet.

Spin 37 went further. Leopards filled most of the board again, for $72.00 under a BIG WIN banner, 72x the bet and the best result of the session.

Spin 68 landed three scatters for $2.00 and opened Shark Feast. No rule says which shark to choose, so the pick was ours: Mega Don, for 6 free spins with 108 Mega Dons on the reels. The round brought no retrigger and closed at $8.10 including the scatter pay, 8.1x the bet.

Those were single results. Without spins 1 and 37, the other 98 spins returned $46.20. The balance never fell below its starting 25,000.00 after spin 1; it peaked at 25,083.50 after spin 37 and drifted down from there.

We never tried the leopard or hammerhead option and saw no retrigger, so those parts come from the rules. A hundred spins cannot tell you the RTP or the volatility.

Is Mega Don: Feeding Frenzy worth trying?

The shark choice gives the free spins real character. Ten spins with the leopard spread the risk, six with Mega Don put the most of the top shark on the reels for the fewest spins, and retriggers add both spins and upgrading symbols toward a 20,000x cap.

The base game earns its place too, because Snack Time can turn a quiet board of small fish into a wall of sharks across 1,024 ways. The catch is the plain pays: small fish pay cents, and a spin without Snack Time or the wild has little to work with. There is no buy.

Deep Sea Frenzy, a Pragmatic Play game we tested, also puts sharks on a 5x4 grid, and by both games' rules the engines differ. It pays on 50 lines, builds its free spins on shark money symbols and collectors and caps wins at 16,000x, where Mega Don pays ways and upgrades fish. Our sessions returned $159.80 there and $154.20 here, single sessions both.
