Our verdict
Chaos Crew keeps its base game simple, with 15 lines and Cranky Cat wilds that multiply each other, and puts its weight on free spins, where Cats and Skulls raise five numbers above the reels and the total is paid at the end. Epic versions lift every reel at once. Three blank spins end the round, and the one buy costs 129x at a lower RTP than the base game.

Chaos Crew: Full Review
Chaos Crew, from September 2020, is the punk graffiti slot that started Hacksaw Gaming's Chaos Crew series. On its 5x5, 15-line grid, Cranky Cat wilds multiply line wins, and free spins pay the sum of five numbers that Cranky and Sketchy the skull build above the reels. Hacksaw gives it 5 out of 5 on volatility; the top RTP is 96.3%, and wins stop at 10,000x. We tested the Chaos Crew slot demo over 100 spins at $1 and its one buy.

What is the Chaos Crew slot about?
The grid sits in a slime-green frame against a graffiti-covered back street wall, with Cranky Cat, a one-eyed blue cat, and Sketchy Skull, a green skull, snarling from the logo. Free spins turn the frame teal and fill the grid with NO!, FALSE, DEAD, NO and NOPE! tiles.
Wins pay left to right on 15 fixed lines from the leftmost reel and need 3 of a kind. At a $1 bet the five low symbols, an 8-ball, a pink skull, an X-eyed smiley, a crossed X and a lightning badge, pay $0.15, $0.30 or $1 for three, four or five. The death's-head moth, brain and skull apple core pay $1 to $5, and the purple tentacle $2 to $12.
The rules say 15 lines and draw all 15, though Hacksaw's official page lists 19. Two review sites quote a 23.4% hit rate; our 100 base spins had 32 wins.
Chaos Crew came first in the series. Chaos Crew 2 followed in 2023 and Chaos Crew 3 after it, and both are separate slots that this page does not describe.
Base spin 3 at $1: an x2 Cranky Cat on reel 2 and a $2.00 win in the bar. FluxPlays demo test, 16 October 2026.
Chaos Crew bonus features
Cranky Cat wilds
In the base game the Cranky Cat is a wild that stands in for every symbol except FREE SPIN. It also carries a mystery multiplier of x2, x3 or x5 for the line it helps to complete, and two or more on the same line multiply each other, so an x2 and an x3 make x6.
Free spins
Three FREE SPIN symbols start a round of 3 spins. Every Skull or Cat that lands resets the count to 3, and three spins in a row without one end it. A number sits above each reel, and when the round is over the five numbers are added up and paid as a multiple of the bet. Effects apply left to right, top to bottom:
- Cranky Cat: multiplies its own reel's number by x2, x3, x5, x10 or x20
- Epic Cranky Cat (striped): multiplies every reel's number by x2, x3, x5, x10 or x20
- Sketchy Skull: adds +1, +2, +5, +10 or +20 to its own reel's number
- Epic Sketchy Skull (striped): adds +1, +2, +5, +10 or +20 to every reel's number
The rules do not give a starting value, but in all three of our rounds each number began at 1, so a round in which nothing lands still pays 5x the bet. By the rules, the 10,000x cap can only be reached in free spins, and reaching it ends the round.
Free Spins buy
BUY BONUS holds a single card: Free Spins for 129x the bet, marked "Volatility: Extreme", at 95.92% RTP, a little below the base game's 96.3%. There are no FeatureSpins or other paid modes and no hidden bonus round. The demo's rules allow bets of $0.20 to $2,000 (the review sites we checked give $100), and the buy can go above that.
The only buy at $1: Free Spins for $129.00, labelled Volatility: Extreme. FluxPlays demo test, 16 October 2026.

Played on Hacksaw Gaming's official demo in US dollars, from the $5,000 demo balance, every round checked against the game server's log. Free spins triggered naturally twice: spin 9 paid $44.00 over 11 free spins, a single result, and spin 94 paid $5.00. Without spin 9 the other 99 base spins returned $65.35, and the line wins alone $60.35. The one buy, Free Spins at 129x, paid $15.00; the game has no paid modes. Totals from the spin log: $229.00 staked, $124.35 returned, in one session from $5,000.00 to $4,895.35. Three rounds and 100 spins are too few to judge the RTP or the volatility.
We played Hacksaw Gaming's official demo in US dollars from its $5,000 balance, with every round checked against the game server's log. The 100 base spins at $1 returned $109.35 from 32 wins, more than they cost, but one round made the difference: the free spins from spin 9 paid $44.00. Without that single result, the other 99 spins returned $65.35.
Half the wins, 16 of 32, were under $1. The bigger line wins came with Cranky Cats: $10.00 on spin 13 with an x2, and the best, $12.00 on spin 33, with an x2 and an x3 side by side. The longest run without a win lasted 10 spins.
Base spin 33 of 100 at $1: x2 and x3 Cranky Cats on reels 2 and 3, $12.00, our best line win. FluxPlays demo test, 16 October 2026.
Spin 9's round ran 11 free spins. Skulls and Cats lifted the numbers to 16, 2, 22, 3 and 1, and the game added them into 44x, $44.00. Free spins came again on spin 94, but nothing landed in its 3 spins, so the five starting 1s paid $5.00.
End of the free spins from base spin 9: the reel numbers collected into 44x, TOTAL WIN $44.00. FluxPlays demo test, 16 October 2026.
The $129 Free Spins buy opened with an Epic Sketchy Skull +2, which lifted all five numbers from 1 to 3. The next three spins were blank, so the round ended after 4 spins at 15x, $15.00.
First spin of our $129 buy: an Epic Sketchy Skull +2 on reel 5 adding 2 to every reel's starting 1x. FluxPlays demo test, 16 October 2026.
The two parts of the session:
- Base game, 100 spins at $1: $100.00 in, $109.35 back, including the $44.00 and $5.00 free spins rounds
- Free Spins buy at 129x: $129.00 in, $15.00 back
The server log puts the session at $229.00 staked and $124.35 returned, in one demo session that ended at $4,895.35. The rules screen showed 96.3% for the base game. We never saw an x10 or x20 Cranky Cat or an Epic Cranky Cat, so those come from the rules, and three rounds and 100 spins are too few to judge the RTP or the 5 out of 5 rating.
Is Chaos Crew worth trying?
The free spins are the draw. They are easy to follow, five numbers that can only go up, and the Epic symbols move all five at once, with Cats of up to x20. Every Skull or Cat resets the count to 3, so a round can run on, but three blanks in a row end it whatever the numbers show.
The base game is plain: 15 lines, modest pays (five purple tentacles pay 12x) and Cranky Cats as the only lift. The buy costs 129x for one round at 95.92%, and a bought round can stop after three blanks, as our $129 one did after a single Skull.
Hacksaw describes the volatility three ways: 5 out of 5 in its game data, high in the rules text and Extreme on the buy card. Casinos can run 96.30%, 92.40% or 88.40% RTP, and the info screen shows which.
Eastern Fury and Ra vs Osiris, 5x5, 15-line games we have tested, add their wild multipliers together. Chaos Crew's Cranky Cats multiply each other instead, so two on one line compound rather than sum.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I play the Chaos Crew demo for free?+
Yes. This page loads Hacksaw Gaming's official Chaos Crew demo with a $5,000 play balance and no sign-up; it opened at a $2.00 bet for us. The single buy, Free Spins at $129 for a $1 bet, works after a BACK or OK confirmation, and there are no FeatureSpins. Reloading the page starts a fresh $5,000 session.
How do Chaos Crew free spins work?+
Each reel gets a number. Cats multiply it by up to x20, Skulls add up to +20, and Epic versions change all five; any Skull or Cat resets the spins to 3, and three blanks end the round. The five numbers are then added and paid: our spin 9 round ended on 16, 2, 22, 3 and 1, for $44.00.
What does the Cranky Cat do in Chaos Crew?+
In base spins it is the wild, standing in for everything but the FREE SPIN symbol, with a hidden x2, x3 or x5 for its line; several on one line multiply each other. In free spins it multiplies the number above its reel instead. Our best line win, $12.00 on spin 33, came with an x2 and an x3 Cranky Cat.
Is Chaos Crew high volatility?+
Hacksaw's game data rates it 5 out of 5, the rules text calls it a high volatility game, and the buy card says Extreme. Our 100 base spins returned $109.35, but one free spins round supplied $44.00 of that, so it shows how one round can swing a short session, not how the game pays over time.
Is this the original Chaos Crew slot?+
Yes. This is the 2020 Chaos Crew, the 5x5, 15-line game with Cranky Cat and Sketchy Skull. Chaos Crew 2 (2023) and Chaos Crew 3 are separate Hacksaw slots, and none of their figures appear here. A search for the bare name turns up plenty that is not the slot, so add slot to it.
