Coins and Cannons

Coins and Cannons is a Slotmill slot from 17 September 2024: a 6x6 grid of crates on a pirate beach, with avalanche cluster wins, gold Coins that merge into bigger ones and Multiplier Cannons that multiply a whole round's win. Slotmill rates it High, with a 96.08% RTP and a 15,000x cap. What is the Coins and Cannons slot about?

The grid is a wooden crate set on a sunny beach, with palm trees, a wrecked ship on the left and a rock carved like a skull on the right. Free spins move into a treasure cave, and the Super round into a fiery cave lined with cannons.

A win needs at least five matching symbols joined side to side or top to bottom. A win removes not only the cluster but every other symbol of that type on the grid, so each avalanche clears a lot of space, and a single Wild lands in one of the gaps before the refill.

Nine symbols pay. A pirate skull in a tricorn hat tops the table at $1.20 for five and $100 for fourteen or more at a $1 bet. Four gems follow, from $0.40 to $0.60 for five, and four card suits fill the bottom at 20 or 30 cents for five.

The Wild is a gold skull. It stands in for everything except the two compass Bonus symbols, can join every cluster it touches, and counts as 0x when it completes a Coin cluster.

Coins and Cannons bonus features

Coin Cluster

Coins carry 1x to 40x the bet. When five or more touch, the cluster pays the sum of their values, explodes and leaves one new Coin worth that total in an empty space, ready to join a later cluster. Coin wins never create a Wild.

Multiplier Cannons

A Multiplier Cannon holds x2, x3, x5, x7, x10, x20, x50 or x100. One that lands in a round with a win stays on the grid until the avalanches stop. Then every Cannon on the grid is added together, and the round's whole win is multiplied by the sum. A Cannon in a round without a win does nothing.

Free Spins and Super Free Spins

Three Bonus compasses award 10 free spins. Coins that do not win sink to the bottom of the grid and stay there for the rest of the round, so each new Coin has more to join, and a +1 symbol adds a spin.

Two Bonus compasses and a Super Bonus award 10 Super Free Spins instead, with the same rules and a Multiplier Cannon guaranteed on every spin.

Fast Track and Xtra-Bet

Three options sit behind Fast Track, top left, and each keeps charging on every spin until you click it off. The bonus buys are Free Spins for 100x the bet, at 96.25% RTP, and Super Free Spins for 500x, at 96.36%. The third, Multiplier Cannon, costs 40x a spin (96.12%) and guarantees a Cannon on that spin, not a bonus.

Every confirmation box rates its option High. Xtra-Bet is a separate toggle that adds 50% to the stake for 2.6 times the free spins chance at 96.15%; it cannot run with Fast Track, and like Burst Mode it stayed off. Bets run from $0.20 to $50 over 22 levels.

Our Coins and Cannons demo test

Slotmill's official demo opened in US dollars at $5,000.00, 100 times the $50 top bet, with $1 selected. The game server's log ties all 112 rounds together without a gap, and the last balance matches the screen. The 100 base spins returned $52.20 from 32 wins, but 23 of those paid under $1, $10.30 between them. The longest losing run was 9 spins, and no bonus landed.

Spin 76 was the exception. By the game server's log, a Coin Cluster and other wins made $14.00 before the multiplier, and a x2 Cannon that landed in the same round doubled it to $28.00. Without it, the other 99 spins returned $24.20, and none paid more than $3.30.

We then bought each round once. The $100 Free Spins gave 10 spins, and a +1 made it 11. A x2 Cannon landed early, unused Coins piled up along the bottom, and the round closed at $104.80, $4.80 over its price, a single result.

The $500 Super Free Spins also gained extra spins. A Cannon landed on every one, x2 and x10 among them, while Coins of 16x, 31x and 12x built up at the bottom. It paid $383.70, 0.77x the price.

The Multiplier Cannon mode was the part of the session that paid. At $40 a spin, as the rules and the menu price it, nine of ten spins paid and the ten returned $531.20 for $400. The first made $138.00, and the last landed x20 and x3 Cannons, x23 in all, for $197.80. Those two are single results: the other eight returned $195.40 for $320.

In all, the server log shows $1,100.00 staked and $1,071.90 returned, from $5,000.00 to $4,971.90. The intro and rules showed 96.08%. We never saw a bonus land by itself or a x50 or x100 Cannon, and a session of this length says nothing reliable about the RTP or the volatility.

Is Coins and Cannons worth trying?

The two halves of the name fit together well. Coins merge into bigger Coins, wins wipe every matching symbol off the grid so avalanches run long, and a Cannon then multiplies the whole round at the end, adding up every Cannon present. That makes a round worth watching to its last drop.

The weak spot is that a Cannon needs a win to work, and the base game's wins are mostly small: five of a card suit pay 20 or 30 cents at a $1 bet. Coins top out at 40x, and the free spins rely on unused Coins piling up rather than a growing multiplier.

The Fast Track menu is short and clear: two rounds and one per-spin option. All three RTPs, 96.12% to 96.36%, sit above the base game's 96.08%, and Slotmill's page also lists a 94.04% version that casinos can run. Every source we read rates the volatility High, as the game's own boxes do.

Coin Quest 2 uses the same Coin Cluster on the same 6x6 avalanche grid and also caps wins at 15,000x, by both games' rules. Its Coins run to 500x and it adds a collect meter and Power-ups, where Coins and Cannons drops the meter and puts its multipliers on Cannons.

Coin Quest, the 5x5 original from 2022, has the same merging Coins and a collect meter, with a 10,000x cap.
