Pelican Payday comes from Pragmatic Play's POP label and was released on 6 October 2026: a beach-themed 3x5 slot with 10 paylines, where a pelican fisherman collects buckets of money. In the base game he can only land on the third reel; in free spins he can land anywhere and pays out a pot that keeps growing. The rules rate it low volatility, with a 96.59% top RTP and a 5,000x cap. We ran the Pelican Payday demo for 100 spins at $1.

What is the Pelican Payday slot about?

A cartoon pelican in a bucket hat and fishing vest grins over the reels, rod in one wing and a fistful of cash in the other. A jackpot bar sits below him, with a sunny beach and a striped lighthouse on either side. Built for a phone held upright, the game fills a narrow middle column on a desktop. Free spins turn the beach to sunset.

There are three reels of five symbols and 10 fixed lines, paid left to right for three of a kind only. At a $1 bet the goldfish pays $10, the treasure chest $2 and the fishing lure $1.50, while A, K, Q and J pay $1.00 down to $0.30. There is no wild, so every line win needs three real symbols.

Pragmatic Play's figures put a win on 18.58% of spins, about one in 5.38, and free spins on one spin in 146.02. Our session paid on 13 of 100 spins.

Money buckets and the pelican collect

Buckets of cash and gold coins are the money symbols, and they can land on any reel. Each carries 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 5x or 10x the bet, or one of four jackpots: Mini 20x, Minor 50x, Major 100x and Grand 1,000x. At a $1 bet the bar above the reels reads $20, $50, $100 and $1,000, and it scales with the bet.

A bucket pays nothing by itself. It needs the pelican, the collect symbol, which in the base game can land only on reel 3. When he lands with buckets in view, he collects all their values and pays them, jackpots included.

Free spins and the pot

Three lighthouse scatters, on any reel, award 8 free spins on special reels, where the pelican can land on all three reels. Whenever buckets land while a pelican is on screen, their values go into a pot above the reels, and every pelican that lands pays the current pot. The pot is not spent when it pays; it stays until the round ends, so later pelicans pay it again.

Three more scatters during the round add 8 free spins. A round that reaches 5,000x the bet ends at once. There is no Buy Feature, ante bet or other special bet, so spinning is the only way in.

We played 100 spins at $1, one at a time and without autoplay, and got $36.80 back from 13 winning spins: two under $1, ten between $1 and $5 and one above. The balance never got above its starting point, and the longest dry run was 15 spins, from spin 54 to 68.

The buckets were everywhere and paid nothing. They landed on 84 of the 100 spins, but the pelican never once landed on reel 3, so not one of them was collected in the base game. Outside free spins, every dollar came from line wins.

The best of those was spin 49: three treasure chests on the bottom row and three on a second line, $2.00 each, for $4.00. A $1.00 and a $0.50 bucket sat on the reels with no pelican to collect them.

A scatter landed on 47 spins and two landed together on six, but three came only once, on spin 90. Halfway through those 8 free spins the round stood at $9.60 with $2.00 in the pot. On the last spin two pelicans landed and each paid the $3.00 pot, $6.00 together, and the round finished at $17.60.

That one round carried the session. Without it, the other 99 spins returned $19.20 between them, all from lines, and its $17.60 is a single result, not a guide to what free spins pay. We never saw a jackpot bucket, a retrigger or a base-game collect, and 100 spins cannot measure a 96.59% RTP or a volatility label.

Is Pelican Payday worth trying?

The pot is the good idea here. In free spins every pelican pays everything collected so far, and the pot never resets during the round, so each new collect is worth at least as much as the last. Jackpot buckets up to the 1,000x Grand can join it, and the rules are short enough to learn in a minute.

The base game is the problem. The pelican is confined to reel 3, so buckets often land with no one to collect them (in our test, every time), and without a wild, line wins need three matching symbols on one of 10 lines. The low volatility label promises frequent small pays, but Pragmatic Play's own hit rate is under one spin in five.
